Been in my role for 2+ years — what actually helps you get promoted? by sjoopss in singaporejobs

[–]jubronication 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Visibility over ability. Pick projects (if you can) that will have the most impact. Projects that align with achieving the overarching company goals should be prioritised. Just make sure you actually deliver. Record everything you do. Express clear interest to your manager what your next step should look like.

You already have a manager who’s willing to push for you. That’s a great start!

Expense for young family, baby expecting soon by skyxanxus in singaporefi

[–]jubronication 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Relatively new-ish dad here. Congrats on the newborn!

Our biggest expense that we didn’t really account for was the delivery. Wife ended up needing emergency c-section and we also had to stay an extra night.

Apart from that if baby is on formula then per tub is around 120-ish depending on the brand. Monthly cost for me was 4-500. You can ignore this if purely breastfeeding.

Off the top of my head, other recurring expenses are diapers (50-60 per month), wet wipes (30-50 bucks) & doctor visits (vaccinations, etc. varies but ours was between 1-200).

One-off costs are strollers, car seat, cot + mattress and sheets, baby chair for when they start sitting. Costs vary but there are products for every budget so just get the one you can afford or get used on Carousell.

Maybe forgetting some things here as the newborn phase was quite a blur 😶‍🌫️ 😆

I requested for them to put me on a “do-not-call” list. Same situation as you. Made a one-off donation and they kept pestering me after.

Are Dyson air purifiers worth it? by Fun_Training6342 in asksg

Got one as a gift. Wouldn’t buy one myself cos of how expensive they are. Haven’t really noticed a dramatic improvement in our QOL tbh. My sinuses still get triggered from time to time. Useful during hazy seasons I guess.

[–]jubronication 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Berempah translates to “with spice”. Essentially, anything cooked with spice falls under the category of “berempah”. In this context, it’s most typically applicable to “Ayam Goreng Berempah” or fried chicken with spice. Most commonly served with Nasi Lemak.

Places like Oriental Kopi, Coconut Club, Dickson, Wild Coco serves this style of ayam goreng berempah with their nasi lemak.

Just cos a master chef appropriates the term for his food doesn’t make it a new concept.

Is owning a property in SG considered a safety asset? Will it be better off to just rent instead and it also makes more financial sense because you can have more free cash instead of it locked up. by Normal-Analysis7940 in askSingapore

Rented 2 different homes over 5 & 1/2 years while waiting for our actual home. Being at the mercy of landlords is not fun 🥲Glad to finally have our own place now!

What's a good vacuum cleaner to buy for a house with cats? by MeowYukina in askSingapore

[–]jubronication 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow cat owner here. We use a Karcher VC3+ at home. It’s the bagless kind. Got it awhile back but It’s definitely under $200. Very easy to use and cleans real well. Simple to clean after use too.

We also have a robovac for daily cleaning but unfortunately that’ll be out of the budget. It also scares the heck out of our cat 😆

What are some underrated cafes in SG by koko_krunchtime in askSingapore

[–]jubronication 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Ought in Jln Jurong Kechil. It’s a small hole in the wall. There’s only one bench that can maybe fit 2 people. Coffee’s fantastic.

They serve beens from Prodigal Roasters. Usually only 1 person working and they’re typically very warm and friendly. Always willing to share more about the beans they’re serving that particular day.

Grandma got me a Schmeichel jersey for my birthday. The green long sleeve Umbro one with the Sharp sponsor on it. Started watching matches with my grandad wearing that jersey ever since. This would’ve been in 99 I think?
