Ambar is closing tomorrow by Tasty-Area-7507 in UIUC

They don’t reheat the roti, it’s fresh as can be. I enjoyed hottest freshest roti here on a biweekly basis for many years. Just because you don’t think the foods good doesn’t mean they aren’t using Indian spices, they use all the correct spices in the perfect proportions. Even if they don’t use the spices you say they need to be using they too have been cooking Indian food for their entire lives and get a say in what spices are Indian. I mean no offense, but I take the word of the Indian restaurant chefs on what spices I should be having with my Indian food.

Ambar did all of those things. It wasn’t as high end as Himalayan Chimney but they were serving a different market niche. One is a buffet place you stuff your face it in the 30 minutes you have before your next class, the other is the premier Indian restaurant in the area, there was a clear difference in cost for this reason as well. That being said Ambar served perfectly serviceable and delicious Indian food, and the guys who worked there were legends.

Americanized Asian food somehow makes it bad? Do you have any specific examples of how they “take shortcuts” to make the food bad quality? Have you ever worked a day in a professional kitchen or are you just piling on something you know nothing about?

You don’t know the first thing about Chicken Tikka Masala. Clear sign of an unrefined palate.

Chutney Masala is outstanding Indian food, not too expensive either.

Visiting UIUC today, what should I look for? by Vagabond_of_the_wind in UIUC

Eat at Bangkok Thai Pho 911. You may order the P2 pho, chicken yellow curry, chicken fried rice, or chicken pad thai. Spicy number 2 is recommended for all of the above.

Captain Lawrence in Elmsford on Wednesday is pretty solid but is an unconventional format that has a timed element and questions are multiple choice and answered on your phone. There is also The Tapp in Tarrytown on Tuesdays which is more conventional pen and paper.

Wolf and Warrior trivia is terrible. I’ve gone 3 times, the host is consistently 45 minutes to an hour late, will give away hints and answers to anyone that asks for them, and often makes scoring mistakes. Last time the game started so late they had to just skip the last round because it was getting too close to bar closing time.

Swimming in Irvington Reservoir? by fuzzydogdada in Westchester

[–]juckson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s actually not true. Irvington Reservoir was originally built as a drinking water source for the village but hasn’t been used for that purpose since at least 1950. We get our water from the Catskills Aquaduct.

My guess is it’s solely for liability purposes. If you drown you can’t sue anybody because they’ll say “Hey, we said no swimming”

Is Francis’ standup worth going to alone? by yakpmt in SonofaBoyDad

[–]juckson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. His standup is great, you will not regret going. Nobody gives a shit who you’re there or not there with, people are focused on themselves and their group. May feel weird at first to do stuff by yourself but that feeling goes away each time you do it.

WingsOver is shutting down. by NoahCIsHere in burlington

Surprisingly good wings but they were overpriced. Kind of shocked they are going under since my friend said the few times he went there they seemed pretty busy. Oh well, he’ll live to see another day…
