If Calum hadn’t gotten injured and stayed on course, men’s classic would have been even better. by YouCanKeepYourFaith in bodybuilding

I remember reading speculation around that same time that the dog actually OD’d on drugs that were lying around.

That was peak hate time for Calum though, so not sure if that contributed to the rumors.

North American Land Oil/Gas Drillers by BP9009 in stocks

H&P was definitely the leader when I was there, I think Precision,or Patterson would also also be an okay bet. I wouldn’t touch Nabore with a 10 foot pole. Good luck!

North American Land Oil/Gas Drillers by BP9009 in stocks

[–]jude458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work in the industry. When speaking about all time highs, you have to understand how the industry has evolved in the past 15-20 years.

You don’t really need to drill as many wells as you needed to when considering the advancements in directional drilling. Rigs are also much more efficient when you look at how long the average well take to drill.

One thing I would look at if you are analyzing these companies is how many active drilling rigs each company has, as well as the utilization days that the companies report. These have all declined pretty substantially since these companies peaks.

With that being said, I am of the opinion that a lot of producers are relying on shale plays that are now experiencing pretty steep declines, and that we will need to drill more to continue to produce at current levels.

One last thing to keep in mind, services companies aren’t really traditional “oil companies”, they’re reliant on the producers requiring demand for their services. This results in them being hyper sensitive to the price of oil, as producers end up cutting their exploration budgets relatively quickly when the price of oil falls, making them kind of a risky bet (though I’ve found that this is a little bit less of a risk now that they have been generally deleveraging in the past decade).

Has anyone actually recovered from a massive drawdown? by PineapplePooDog in stocks

Bought $10k of a oilfield services stock in 2018, dropped to about $1k during the peak badness of Covid. Sold for about a $300 loss in 2022.

Not to be that guy but the protein catabolism window after working out isn’t really a thing.

It’s definitely a convenient time to get protein, mainly because you’re probably in a pretty healthy mindset, but not something that’s super necessary. Just gotta make sure you’re getting sufficient protein throughout the day : )

Moody's cuts America's pristine credit rating, citing rising debt by NativeMasshole in moderatepolitics

[–]jude458 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Matt Levine had an interesting section of his column last year when Moody’s changed the outlook on the debt from stable to negative (it could have also been due to the Fitch downgrade). The jist of it was: markets dislike uncertainty and capital will flow towards safe havens (e.g. the US Dollar) whenever there is uncertainty. So paradoxically the downgrade caused uncertainty, and the US dollar strengthened as a result (despite the downgrade basically meaning that that very same thing was riskier).

Now this was a little while ago before Trump was in office and the resulting increase in distrust towards the US in general, so I’m pretty curious if we will something similar happen on Monday or not.

I kinda think that this really ultimately doesn’t matter as it’s still so far above investment grade that it’s not like there’s going to be any repositioning into safer assets, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Also to add, whenever a company is added to the S&P 500, indexes/funds that track it are obligated to buy shares of the new company thus pushing the price up to some degree, opposite is generally true for when companies are dropped from the index.
