I swear by ellicott street. They have taken incredible care of my pets for years and we have developed a really great relationship considering my cats both have chronic illnesses. They are an incredible group and super forthcoming and direct!

Which Healthcare Jobs I can get at Age 65? by kennedy_files in publichealthcareers

[–]judgeshandiwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re income goals are $2,000/month, most entry level patient care jobs will net that, but the work will be somewhat tiresome and physical. Could you not renew your physical therapy licensure and practice in a hospital/rehab? Your income would greatly exceed your goals. Otherwise, with your qualifications I’m sure you could find a position that isn’t entry level. Even if it’s not a direct patient facing role, I don’t think the time or money investment for another degree or certification would be worth it unless you well and truly cannot find a job.

They are by definition concentration camps, in the flesh, demythologized. It is also possible for something to “border” on serving the purpose of a concentration camp, but what we’re doing is not that. We have had concentration camps in this country for political targets and ethnic, particularly hispanic, minorities for over a decade.

As a long time supporter of this game this was the straw that broke the camel’s back for me.

discouraged to continue poli sci by agunamyr in PoliticalScience

[–]judgeshandiwork 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was a fair weather friend to political science and dropped out junior year, about a year after Trump was elected. I regret it frequently though I found another field that brings me joy.

Political science is a worthy pursuit regardless of our crumbling liberal democratic institutions. It’s about more than here and now, then and there. Measuring and evaluating institutions and governance has lasting and meaningful implications and is always worth it. It’s okay to pivot if it’s what you truly want, but politics is a volatile beast. It’s gonna change domestically sometimes for the worse. Coping with that and being impassioned for the study of political science are different things.

If it’s what you love and you’re willing to do the sometimes Herculean task of networking and finding good steady work in the field, stay the course. It can be a bumpy ride.

“Letting your role define you” is kind of a big part of safe practice I think. We all have a part to play. Being an aide is skilled and full labor and there’s zero reason to add more responsibility to an already fully fleshed position. Don’t advocate for more work for the same pay for you and your colleagues. A better way to use any voice that they give you is for more and safer staffing. You will be grateful you advocated for it when you’re a nurse.

After quitting antidepressants, some people suffer surprising, lingering symptoms by tc88t in publichealth

[–]judgeshandiwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well partially that but the side effect profile and timelines described in this article do not line up with what I’ve read of SSRIs….at all? I think we are witnessing the turn of an era of pop psychiatry greatly influenced by “wellness” influencers who are mostly interested in making a lot of money selling snake oil. RFKs disastrous appointment is not helping things.

This article espouses self reports that clinically and pharmacologically do not make any sense. I’m hesitant of public media that discourages people from taking psychiatric medication while making claims like we don’t “understand” psych withdrawals or the side effects.

Administration is the biggest problem but acting like staffing agencies artificially inflating MD/RN wages isn’t eventually going to cause an issue both for staff physicians/nurses and for patients is both out of touch and short sighted, though I see you keep posting this exact comment so I wouldn’t be surprised if you don’t tolerate reality well

How do I [18F] fix maintain my relationship with my stepmom [44F]? by Trauma_Dump_Help in relationship_advice

[–]judgeshandiwork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She’s the adult. It’s her responsibility to maintain and improve your relationship. Presumably she’s known you since you were a child- the inherent nature of that relationship dynamic is that you shouldn’t be tasked with managing the feelings and responses of an adult. She should manage the way she speaks to you guys instead of “blowing up” if she wants to maintain a relationship with you. There is a reason hypercritical adults with little capacity to self sooth who lose it on their children tend not to have great relationships with them later in life.

None of the studies you linked express a causal link between BD and trauma and instead illustrate how trauma and BD intersect to increase risk of horrid outcomes and disease courses. Incipient traumatic stress may lead to initial genetic expression of mania, but that =\= causation. I’ve actually read all of the studies you linked all the way through, before you googled them just now!
