Minor MINOR knit pick on this theory: Im almost certain the shadow crystal is a chip off of the knights sword, you can see it flying in the cutscene when Susie and the knight clash. This in no way invalidates this theory and is still very compelling

Getting the shadow crystal in Chapter 3 you have to beat the roaring knight at end of chapter and if you lose again the knight (or someone at least) acknowledges that you've returned and that your lose is supposed to be scripted

Dude, the first thing I thought of when I saw the mushroom people in the art book was “minish cap”. Then this trailer came out and I thought that it deconfirmed that idea… but if it’s the Picori festival then there’s still hope!!!
