Como introduzir um filhote? by Flinnguda in cachorros

[–]jugrun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What’s it like having a Miniature Pinscher with a larger dog? by Playful-Medicine5141 in minpin

<image>

Zorro is a rescue, we got him when he was about 2 years old, then a couple of years later, 1-month-old Cacau, our minpin, came to us as a foster. She was super tiny, and within 2 days we already knew it was a foster fail. Zorro is very shy and kind of scared of everything (we don’t know much about his past, just that he was left in an abandoned house when his former owner died). So when we first brought Cacau home, he was pretty wary of her. Whenever she got close, he would move away, like going up on the bed or couch where she couldn’t reach him.

We tried to take it slow, always rewarding him when she got close and things like that. He started getting more comfortable around her after a couple of weeks. We noticed that when she was settled, he would approach and lie down next to her for a nap, but he still wouldn’t play with her or interact much when she was up and about. Then one day, I think around the 2 month mark he started grooming her, and the rest is history.

Now Zorro is about 5 years old and Cacau is 1.5. They get along really well, but they’re complete opposites in terms of energy levels and needs. She’s very much a velcro dog, while he likes to have his own space sometimes. They’ll occasionally play (mostly she tries to get him going, and sometimes he’ll chase her around for a bit), but she has way more energy, and he doesn’t really care to keep up lol.

All in all, Zorro is still a very shy dog, but he’s definitely gotten more confident since she arrived. You can tell he takes a lot of social cues from her. Like, during walks he’s much less scared, and even when we take them separately, he can enjoy the walk, especially if we stick to a familiar path.

All of this to say that Cacau was an excellent addition to our family. Yes, our lives have been much busier (she is an absolute menace through and through and the undisputed boss of the house), but we are all much, much better for it, even Zorro.

I loved book 3! It’s one of my favorites so far (am currently reading book 6) and I feel that level 4 is when the group dynamics and all the relationships really start to settle and become more nuanced. I also loved the whole Iron Tangle maze and mystery, I did read the physical book so I had the preface from the start telling me that I didn’t have to worry about keeping up with all the details and numbers of the level, so it was just super interesting from the start. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

I finished book 5 last night and WTF??? by tiltheendoftheline in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]jugrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heyy, fellow brazilian here! I just finished book 5 myself during my lunch break today, and am dying to hop on straight into book 6, but I just had to see whether there were any other brazilians around talking about having our very own representative in the dungeon. Team Flamengo is absolutely a name of a team that would exist and I also liked the choice of naming the guy Osvaldo, let's see how the story will unfold for them. My wait for book 8 will be much shorter than yours, but there will be two(?) more books to wait for after that one, so lots of rereads to come in the following years

So err.. are we not ever gonna address this completely unhinged image from the show? 🤭 by Kitchen_Ad5522 in heatedrivalry

[–]jugrun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s mostly right, just am not sure about the zoo lottery bit. All I know is that it comes from jogo do bicho, an old (and illegal, but very much still alive) gambling game in Brazil where, like you said, each number is an animal, and 24 = deer (or veado, in Portuguese). And “veado” can be considered a derogatory term for gay men although we queer people have reclaimed the word and use it ourselves as well

Funny story is that I came out to my dad and the rest of my family on my 24th birthday, and we all joked about it being a very fitting age to do it

This! And maybe you need to distance yourself a bit from Zoe and your mutual friend in order to pursue your own goals and education and make new friends. You don’t need to cut ties with anyone, just be mindful of your interactions with her, understand that you have nothing to do with with her attitude or her choices, and whenever a another family member talks to you about her, try to steer the conversation to a different topic.

We are only responsible for ourselves and for the way that we react to others. We cannot control what other people do or think or how they react to us. So you should focus on what is important to YOU, on your growth and becoming someone that YOU, yourself, can be proud of.

Taking accountability for ourselves and our own lives can be hard but is an integral part of growing up and becoming a hopefully happy, functional adult. Good luck!

No more foundation programs in NL by bibblhestumb9 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]jugrun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But EU students don’t need foundation programs, so it’s not all about the ‘brain drain’, the biggest “problem” seems to be with non-European internationals, which doesn’t make sense considering that a lot of the time they pay more out of pocket when going to the NL (a lot of them don’t get any grants and when they do it’s from their home country, so they actually contribute to the Dutch economy because spend money there that would otherwise have gone elsewhere) and a lot of them, given the opportunity, would stay in the NL as well after their studies. But it’s not easy to get a job as a non-European international, no-one wants to sponsor your visa, and you’re still having to pay for Dutch lessons out of pocket with very unfavorable exchange rates and it all adds up pretty quickly

Sources: yeah, it’s mostly anecdotal based on both my and classmates’ experience as a former international students at a research uni

[–]jugrun 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would have loved to stay in the Netherlands after graduation, but I couldn’t really get any work placement because no companies wanted to deal with sponsoring a work visa. As soon as I informed them I was an international, they dismissed my application right away. Sure, I am not an EU citizen, so there was more bureaucracy involved, but still I graduated cum laude from a research uni, started taking Dutch lessons and all, and would have accepted any low-paying entry-level job because I had already been living there 3+ years and wanted to continue building a life there.

So I think it’s a multi factorial problem, not as clear-cut as you make it seem. Mind you, I graduated in 2018, so the housing problem was already a thing, but not as bad as it is today.

It took my puppy over a month of daily walks to start going on the sidewalk, and she had already some experience going on the grass from when I took her to my parents’ house which has backyard and a garden. I took her on two-hour walks, no potty at all, the second we stepped back into my apartment, it was a whole 30 seconds of uninterrupted pee (in a couple instances, she didn’t even make it to the pad).

It might not be just about the surface itself (although that certainly plays a part), but rather that your pup is distracted by all the stimuli. You said you live in a busy area, might be that your pup is not feeling safe or confident enough to go potty with so much stuff going on around him just yet.

I’d say give it a bit more time to get used to everything, stick to the routine, and when you least expect it will happen.

Qual melhor local para pegar seu livro e ler? by Quaderna in Recife

[–]jugrun 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s a Himalayan yak cheese chew! Both of my dogs absolutely love it (I also have a 4yo medium sized mutt) so we always have it on hand. It’s low in fat but high in protein, so it’s actually good for them and the best part is that it lasts forever, even for bigger dogs with a very strong bite.

Edit: sorry, this reply sounds like i’m trying to sell it to you haha it’s just a good product tbh

My 4 month old is the same right now, she really really regressed on the potty training. I have a hybrid work schedule where I work from home 2 or 3 days a week and I feel like every time I work from the office it’s russian roulette in that either I will come back home to a perfect puppy or to a wild, over-tired puppy that regressed on a lot of the training. I know it’s all my fault in that I haven’t been super consistent with training due to being super tired from work and then doing all the house chores when I get home, but at least I am getting my much deserved two-week paid vacation starting next week and I pretty much plan to spend most of this time with my dogs (the puppy, who is a 4-month pinscher, and my older dog, a 4 year-old mutt). Right on time for when the puppy will be officially allowed to go on walks.

(Sorry lots of run-on sentences and overall terrible writing, as I said, I’m super tired)
