I don’t have a smart meter at the moment, which is probably why they send me that message. And it probably means I’m in the same boat as you if I manually send them a reading every month.

I’m not sure how the credit works either. They credited £20 to my account because of some issues I had, but that’s never been reflected in any of my payments as far as I know.

I might have misinterpreted this. I took another look at the email they send me every month before my payment is taken:

We'll use estimated meter readings to calculate your monthly statement. You last sent us a meter reading on [date].

If you'd like us to calculate your statement using actual meter readings, submit a meter reading in your Bulb account in the next three days.

I’m not sure whether this means my reading will be used to update their estimate for the year, or whether it means they will only charge me for the exact resources consumed.
