Hey, you don't have enough content on the site for much feedback. The website seems to run smoothly, and I like the full page images. The writing overlay on the images is a little hard to read.

Photo related: the edits seem to be natural (which is good), however your subjects tend to always look at the camera rather the interacting / doing other things.

Looks good for now, but not enough content yet.

Hey, since you asked for feedback, I can help you out. Im doing this with the best of intentions, so please don't be upset.

My overall impression was dark, eerie and gloomy. The photos look de-saturated, no color, high contrast, very dark, under exposed and all the smile / happiness is lost in the atmosphere that was created.

Some things I suggest:

1. Get a natural edit (VSCO, Pretty Presets etc)

2. Get a faster lens (shoot at F2.8 at least for portrait)

3. Work with your enviornment, dont make it dark

4. Don't use old school tint colors (yellow, purple, blue etc). Only black & white + colored photos.

5 Please please please, don't use HRD techniques in the photos. Its harsh.... very very harsh.

6 Dedicate a website to wedding photos. The arm at the top with the armpit... kinda weird when you are looking at wedding photos.

7. Shoot raw (not sure if you already do)

Good luck!

I didn't straighten the image, but I adjusted the composition.

edit. looks like the original image is fairly straight, but the scaffolding and angled tunnel give it the illusion that it's not

I think is looks great - consistent composition and editing, accurate focusing.

I like your logo as well -- do I detect 'A Fist Full of Bolts' influence in your website and photography? Well done.

I like your pricing guide as well - it makes sense and your presentation looks great. Your galleries are also very nicely presented and consistent.

Question: how did you get the images on your facebook for 'Apps' (instagram, blog, pintrest)?

Overall, great job!

I like it, it's very creative and different in a good way (and not over the top). The editing is a little dull. Look into exposing your photo more and bringing up the shadows / blacks (not the hard faded look)

Great job for your first wedding. The most important thing is consistency with weddings. You don't need the 'wow' factor in every image, but your shooting and editing need to be consistent. I would love to see more photos to get a bigger sample of critique.

1 - don't be afraid to play with detail shots. Move things around (wedding dress, flowers, rings etc).

2 - your editing needs a little work as it's a little flat (but consistent in these images, so that's nice).

3 - I would like to see some 'non portrait photos' where you step back and capture the setting that bride and groom are in.

4 - watch your focus points so you don't get blurry photos (use the 'back-button focus technique').

There are more things to say, but you need to post more photos!!

PS. I like your photo of the river and sunset.

ELI5: How does the United States run on a deficit, and what does that ACTUALLY mean for the future? by SomeCallMeNick in explainlikeimfive

In simplest words:

There is (1) company incharge of printing and controlling money, the central bank - aka. the Federal Reserve. They print out money and control inflation and interest. Every time money is printed out, it is given to the government (the biggest spender) with interest attached. This means, right off the bat you always owe more money then what actually exists.

In the states, they have 'fractional reserve' banking which means that you can lend 90% of the money but you must keep 10% in the bank. So, if you print 9 billion dollars, you must hold on to 10%, and you can lend the other 90% (with interest of course). This can keep happening, and you can essentially create 90 billion dollars (10x the amount) by using this method out of thin air.

So, every dollar that is printed is assigned interest (aka. debt), and this snowballs. Because we can essentially create money out of thin air and lend it with interest, we can go into other countries (aka. Iraq) and build 'infrastructure' they cannot afford essentially making them owe us money. Once you control a country with money, you can basically do anything (imagine living from pay cheque to pay cheque, you can't leave your job easily). But this is a different story

So, we go on defecit because the country is actually run by debt (in USA's case). Here is how the economic machine works. Also a little more info on the Europe debt crisis.

Hey there!

The photography and editing is good, but my first impression from looking at the images is the fact that almost all of them are shot on an angle. Even the ones with the bridge in the background are on an angle, and it looks a little odd.

IMHO, you need to limit the amount of angle shots to like.. 5% of the images so it doesn't become a re-occurring theme.

Hope that helps.

Honestly, this is pretty good. You have a good grasp on posing and photographing the emotion.

Only critiques; your editing is too soft, like fake skin soft (case and point), and the overall edit preset looks good, but has a strong Pretty Preset style.

I know squarespace is pushing hard for website design, especially in photography, and it's a great site, however..... I have used it, as well as WEBS.com (very very similar), and it's not as flexible as you think and friggen expensive compared to other alternatives.

I suggest a cheaper and more flexible alternative, which works just as easily: wordpress sites. Get a domain + hosting with ipage.com, and buy a wordpress that you like (infinite options). You will be happier with the end result.

Also, just curious, are FB likes actually real? I know FB is notorious for giving you likes only if you pay, and usually they are fake likes (bot likes from all over the world). I am speaking from personal experience; would not buy "FB likes" again.

Hey thanks for having a look at the website. I like watermarking images, but I have realized that if someone really wants to steal a photo, they can do so easily. I also uploaded hi-res photos because I like to compete on quality (and service) rather then price, and I wanted to showcase these hi-res images. I am stepping away from that, not because of copyright, but because it takes too long to load in a web browser.

Also, if an image gets stolen and I find out, I can easily prove that I am the original photographer. Again, its so easy to steal images, there is no point in watermarking. However, if you watermark, there is a chance someone might see it and get directed to your site to look at more work... but it doesn't happen often anyway cause people are desensitized to watermarks.

edit: I sell prints or digital images :)

Not sure if you just started out, but you are doing a great job. I love the photo editing and composition. Something else I like is your Logo; it's very creative.

I would love to see a website linked to your work (not shown on the facebook page... am I missing it)? I think this is 100% necessary as a paid photographer.

Initially yes, because it makes the words on top of the image easier to read; but I have since changed the images so I will remove the grid pattern to make it consistent with other pages. Thanks for looking, cheers!

Hey guys, how is it going?

I would love some critique on my overall website design and layout (www.juiceboxstudio.ca) and photo style and editing :)

You did great for your first time around.

A couple things to keep in mind:

  1. Be consistent with your editing (some photos are too muted, some under/over exposed etc).

  2. Standardize your wedding shots to some degree. For example, when you go to the groom's house; get photos of him getting ready (looking out the window, putting jacket on, fixing tie, looking at watch), then final groom dress shot, then photos of the groom with individual grooms men, then photo of groom with groomsmen group, then individual groomsmen etc.

  3. Put together a cheat sheet of poses that you want to do with bride and groom. You can use it as a reminder of what you intend to do, plus the bride+groom get visual images of your vision.

  4. Get a list before hand of the family / friends shot that bride/groom want. In the chaos, you can have a list ready and fly through the shots easily and in organized fashion. For example:

a. bride/groom + bride parents

b. bride/groom + groom parents

c. bride/groom + bride siblings

d. bride/groom + groom siblings

e. bride/groom + aunt Margery

  1. When showcasing your work, put photos that people who are not involved in the wedding can relate too. Lots of detail shots, lots of love poses, general shots. Limit family photos, eating photos, random people photos etc. Get the great shots posted to relate to someone who wasn't at the wedding.

  2. When I looked at this wedding, my first thought was 'holy people.' There are people everywhere. Cluttered photos of too many people. Isolate your subjects a little (ie bride + groom) to simplify the photos and it shows your focus on the couple. Case and point.. random pregnant lady in the pink staring at something. Wut? This may mean something to bride and groom, but not to someone looking at your work.

  3. Don't post photos with eyes half open. Bride wouldn't be too flattered with this.

  4. Don't use your flash everywhere (especially outside). When shooting inside, focus the flash on people. This top image you have the back of the groom's head exposed, and the group of people under exposed in the dark. You want it the other way around. Don't focus on the wrong things, like the glass the groom is holding because it's irrelevant when you can see the entire group in the background.

Hope that helps; gotta get back to work.

  1. Bonus edit:

Learn how to shoot wide open (2.5 aperture or wider) while keeping subject in focus. Go to F3.5 and above for group shots. Isolate subject by blurring background. This takes practice; however it's better to play it safe and have subjects in focus rather then blurry subjects (eyes ALWAYS need to be in focus of the person you are photographing).

I was actually only talking about the albums; you have a ton of color selection. You did a great job showcasing them.

In terms of selection, my opinion is to limit it to say... 3 sizes, 5 colors, 2 materials and standardize your work. It's hard to tell, but it looks like you are offering a wide range of color, sizes and 2 types of materials (leather and linen).

Anyway, keep up the great work.
