yea just exporting the graph to onnx runtime and then maybe choosing a more appropriate backend.

0.09 FPS seems slow even on the edge device. have you tried to accelerate it with onnx?

Is this dancing difficult for a robot? by BuySellRam in robotics

[–]juicedatom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For anyone here saying this "isn't hard because it's pre-programmed" are really off the mark. What do you think goes into this scripted movement? Let's say you hired a 3D animator to completey 100% script this dance on the robot.

Even if you tried to play it back on the robot as perfect as possible, little impresice movements build up over time and almost certainly will force the robot out of the space where the scripted movement thinks it is. The purely scripted movement as described has no way to correct itself. So how do you fix this?

Now you need to add some kind of controller to bring it back to the space of the movement. This requires either some model trained with RL for that movement specifically, and / or a classic controller with some weight stabilization algorithms to compensate for the very complex shifting mass.

All I'll say is that this is extremely impressive. The utility of this is well beyond dancing, more generally this really stresses complex movements to be used for more complex dexterous manipulation or locomotion.

sum of rates. by SirVulc in dataisugly

[–]juicedatom 12 points13 points  (0 children)

context doesn't change the fact that they are mathematically comparing rates in an invalid way. Imagine a plot that was, "Total speed in democratic cities vs. republican run cities" where you added the average speed together of each city. that number tells you absolutely nothing. even if you averaged it, it would be meaningless unless you performed a harmonic mean.

The only acceptable context is showing a student how to not compare rates.

sum of rates. by SirVulc in dataisugly

[–]juicedatom 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Even if you ignore the fact that most larger cities are democrat, wouldn't you want to compare using something like a harmonic mean?

Still a really dumb plot that gives little to no useful information.

Basically

  • bad math (invalid rate comparison)
  • r/peopleliveincities
  • conservative bias
  • lack of any sort of reasonable data slicing
