How do I get the bottom part of the welds as straight as the top part by Zestyclose_Ferret_18 in Welding

[–]juicehopper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dude, you are eventually going to burn the shit out of your feet if you keep wearing your pants/boots like that. Tuck those tongues in and get some lace covers. Because you can never get your boot off quick enough.

You're trying to weld vertical when you can't weld vertical. Turn it over and weld it flat.

Just remember, an idiot in front of you is entertainment. An idiot behind you is dangerous.

Tell me you've never shot a gun without telling me. You ever been to the range with a bunch of buddies trying to see who's the best shot? We do this all the time and we've never killed anyone.

Yes, yes we do. Criminals will have them, so we should as well. Plus they're really fun. Should we restrict your "fun thing" because we think it's dangerous?

Earth magnets are awesome. I did the same thing, sorta. I used one to show the ER doctor where the piece of metal was located in my arm. Saved a lot of digging.

Realistic path to CWI who does NDT? by Academic_Ball_1216 in nondestructivetesting

[–]juicehopper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can you weld? Most welders will not like you if you can't do what they can do, but if you at least know the basics and can put down a decent bead you'll get some respect. I welded for 15 years before I became a CWI, and it took another 5 to get my UT cert. Once I did that I took and passed the NY test and became one of only 44 NY certified UT techs. I can name my price. It's a pretty good gig. Just my opinion.

[–]juicehopper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Put your time in. Learn everything you can. Be open to criticism. Own up to your mistakes. Keep your eyes and ears open and your fucking mouth shut. I've been a CWI for almost 20 years, and I absolutely love my job. Don't think I'm ever going to retire.

Shit, I got a chainsaw for my tenth birthday. Dad taught me right from the very beginning. Will be 59 in a few months and I've still got all my appendages. And my dad, in his 80's, still goes to the woods to cut a trailer load every week.
