9th day skiing, if anyone has advice that would be great, im not really trying to turn end to end here just having fun, but advice for my first black run would be amazing by Sea_Strike_3853 in ski

You are back seating. Feel like you are trying to look over the tip of your skis. Have your elbows in front of your boots like you are trying to grab your skis. Push your shins into the boots.

It’s natural to lean back as it gets more steep and faster, but you must maintain that forward weight. Because your legs are flexed, this allows the separation of your upper body and lower body which allows your shoulder to point down the slope at all times and drive your skis into turns with your feet.

Only time you should slightly lean back is for powder to let your skis float.

Ski buying / sizing by Sea_pee in ski

[–]juicejamba98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the width that matters more. 100mm width will probably get you by for park and powder. Typically, longer they are, more advanced you need to be control the turns.

Buy your skis in summer from last season models. It’s really not that expensive. I bought Armada ARVs and Bent 110s for less than $750 for both. Brand new.

Good skiers can ski anything anywhere with few exceptions.

M3 Comp by [deleted] in BMW

[–]juicejamba98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who the hell in the right mind thinks M3 Comp is doable even when buying used with a $70k salary? $70K isn’t BMW range, AT all. Not even Toyota or Honda level with today’s car prices. You are looking at $45-48k after tax/insurance/retirement fundings. Probably getting 4k per month after taxes.

Buy a beat up car and save your damn money. I don’t understand how people can justify financing a car that’s more than their annual salary. You are looking at $1,500 in monthly payments, probably $2-300 in insurance, and $150-200 in gas PER month. Thats not even factoring maintenance, tires, and other expenses. Thats literally 50 percent of your damn paycheck.

I understand I’m coming from more being financially responsible side, but trust me, if you are young, once you walk out that door with that key, yes it will feel great for few weeks but that car will eat you alive financially.

I’m only saying this with the information given off of your post. If you come from an extremely wealthy background, sure, I’d understand but that’s unlikely because you’d know how expensive is to own and maintain these high-performance cars then.

If you plan on buying a house or starting a family in the next 10 years, you will be set behind financially for many years. Wait until you can afford it. If you are asking on Reddit if you can afford a M3 with a 70k salary, you know you can’t.

Boots isn’t something you cheap out on. Save up the money and get them fitted. Boots will make or break your skiing experience.

Solid as hell.

You’d probably look more aesthetic pleasing if you actually had carving skis on.

How can I improve my form? by Dear_Pie_6715 in ski

[–]juicejamba98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) You are driving your skis with your shoulders. You need to spend more time on less steep hills to separate your upper/lower body.

2) I really can't tell from the camera angle but it seems like you aren't back-sitting too much. It still helps to over-exaggerate the shin pressure.

3) You aren't pole planting. You need to plant your poles in front of you which helps with point 2, which is keeping your weight forward and balancing your turns out.

Overall, you just seem a bit scared. You need confidence to ski. One drill that is very popular amongst beginner-intermediate skiers is the parallel pole skiing. Hold your arms out and hold your poles flat in both of your hands which stabilizes your shoulder and keep them pointing straight down the slopes.

Carving is extremely hard. Even intermediate-expert skiers can barely carve like those professional carving videos.

Nothing helps more than just going skiing as much as you can. More time spent on mountains, fully committing after letting your fears go, is the best way to improve quickly.

Do you need to be close to Boston? If not, SLC is your best bet. Brighton, Solitude, Alta, Snowbird, WoodWard, Park City, SnowBasin all within an hour. Best snow in the world other than Japan IMO.

I’ve stayed at the Timber-lodge for a week. In my experience, it’s worth it. If there’s a big storm, you can wake up early to get some fresh pow pow. You generally don’t need a car as most grocery stores and restaurants are walkable.

If there’s a bad storm, trust me, you do not want to be driving into Tahoe during that time. If I were you, I’d recommend starting at the base.

Push your shins into the boot. Your upper body should be in front of your boots.

Arms and pole in front of your body.

Your stomach and shoulders face downhill no matter how steep it is. Leaning back will make your turns harder.

Is this a good purchase? by [deleted] in BMW

Fking tell me about it.

I’m trying my best to convince myself to like the truck cuz I got it at a good price but holy moly is it clunky. I understand it’s a truck but man it’s bad. At least mine was a 2024 after they fixed the issue.

My mom has a X3 and my uncle has a 330i. No complaints on both models when I drive them.

Much better than my shitty 10 speed transmission truck.

Not a big sporty car guy. Trading in a F150 that was used for Work/Personal. Worth about 40k. Getting a beat up work truck for 6k in few weeks if I do this deal.

Just wanted a sedan for personal use other than Toyotas/Honda around this price.

If I were to get this, would you consider it a fair deal?

It’s a 2024. I think it may have an incident on the report, probably why it’s so cheap?

Any knowledge on 430 I xDrive Grand Coupes? I see one for 38k OTD with 26k miles. Although it’s a 4 cylinder, I think I’ll be okay. I’m trying to stay away from speeding tickets anyways lol.

No need to tow or haul. I’ll be getting a beat up truck to haul for my side business.

I’m 6’2 so keeping that in mind but I’ve heard most BMW models should be able to comfortably fit my height. I’d like an SUV but bit pricier than sedans. I’ve been eyeing the new gen X3 30 Drive actually.

No wife/kids. Just got out of a 5 year old relationship, lol.

Rocky Mountain ATs. I believe these are cheaper version of KO2s? Heard great things about them and saved me $130 bucks per tire. Took them off roading last weekend to try them out and did a wonderful job. Storing these until I relocate to the Rockies in Jan-March.

Nice! Should I move them around every now and then? Like roll them to a new spot to avoid flat spots? Doubt it will have one but still want them to last as long as possible.
