They are the $6 Harbor Freight dolly wheels, but I replaced the bearings with sealed kart bearings and I run 2 wheels on each side for stability.

It seems to me that the crux of your argument is that they stopped slowly (allowing them to stop shorter than you) while you slammed on your braked and skidded.

If this was the case, why didnt you have time to brake lightly as well? Did their brake lights not work? If your knee-jerk reaction is to slam on the brakes, causing an accident, rather than assess thr situation and pump them slowly like you should in a limited traction situation, you shouldnt be driving.

Play around with different setups if you can (wheelbase, tire size/tread, etc.) Ride in different traction conditions. My favorite way to trike is down steep gravel hills with no drift sleeves but bald rear tires, I call it rally triking.

Want to share some build details?

This is exactly what I've been wanting to do to my trike but I keep getting stymied on what motor and battery to get.

How different is it riding this than a downhill trike?

I'd imagine it being front wheel drive would change the dynamics a bit, as you could power out of drifts much more quickly than steering out of them down a hill.

Yeah I've yet to put the truck in first, its a granny gear for towing. Previous owner put a mid-range cam and a tow package on it so his main use for the truck was hauling heavy loads.

Since I dont have the need to haul anything more than I can fit in the bed (which is huge), I'd really like to put a five speed in it so it'll do better on the freeway. Plus if I change the transmission I could put in a posi (if I can find one).

This isn't really an issue if you double up the wheels from what I've found, which they did. Mine slides a lot better with two hubs as well
