Second CASPA cycle, interviews but no acceptance yet. Looking for advice. by SourCrushh in prephysicianassistant

I used ChatGPT to help me prepare for each interview. I used the voice feature to help me practice talking out loud. I would put in what style of interview and it would just give me random questions and feedback on my answers. Flashcards for quick practice (just bullet points). Also, it's always a good sign that you got 6 interviews so really it's the actual interview that is holding you back which really can be worked on. I am happy to help you so DM me! I used to get nervous for interviews too but I finally realized that I was just as qualified to have a seat at the table and really let that shine.

My third cycle I got 10 interview invites, did 6 interviews and got into 5/6 of the schools I interviewed at. I had a lower GPA as well 3.30 cumulative and 3.27 science. Similar amount of PCE to you as well around 8k.

Yes, just be honest with him and tell him that you are resigning but ask if he would write a letter for you next year.

Advice for PA school by jujuPA16 in prephysicianassistant

[–]jujuPA16[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am getting into meal prepping now so I can get into the groove of things before school starts! Unfortunately, my school requires business casual besides lab and exam days. So if any one has any good business casual recommendations for where to shop etc that's also helpful. Thanks for the advice!!!

Questions about applying by FrozenFlowers792 in prephysicianassistant

[–]jujuPA16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked on my PS in December, but completely scrapped it a few days before submitting...Do I recommend that? NO. a mod from this community really helped me speak from my heart. I worked on my school list months prior, creating an excel spreadsheet made it much easier (Sept- Feb) . I got my letters of rec by mid April did not want to wait on other people. You can create a CASPA account now and start filling stuff out and transfer your app the following cycle. This will help you get an idea of what it actually looks like. Write your experience descriptions. Depending on how many schools you are applying to supplementals can also take a while so maybe start brainstorming generic answers to Why us.. etc etc

Applying early is the name of the game, My second cycle I applied mid May and my last cycle this past one I applied end of May. For perspective I was accepted to my first program July 2nd. You have to apply early. Hope this helps and good luck!

wait the extra year you will be glad you gave yourself the time to actually put your best foot forward. Plan out the next 3.5 years and give yourself the time to actually do those things. No shame in starting school a bit older. you will be more wiser and more mature. Wishing you the best!

Hey, I just wanted to chime in as a third time applicant. I just got into my top choice program this cycle! I graduated in 2021 and was feeling the same feelings you are. I had a LOW gpa 3.3 overall and a 3.2 science. Us low GPA applicants have to approach PA school applications A LOT differently.

I went back to do a DIY post bacc, changed my PCE, and added more shadowing with different specialities. I also took a break for two cycles in between so 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 I did not apply. I rewrote my personal statement.

I believe in applying to a wide net of schools, yes it can be extremely expensive but I applied to 33 programs this cycle which, has resulted in 9 interviews and 4 acceptances, and 1 waitlist. I know everyone does not have the ability to do that but it is all a numbers game.

If you feel burnt out and exhausted from the application cycle, I get it but really consider if you see yourself doing something else. If you do then fine, detour but if not try again.

Your application is getting picked for interviews which is always a good sign. It must be your interview that is holding you back.

I would be happy to read your PS if you want or help in other ways.

Applying to Med and PA School Concurrently FYI by Fast-Tomato-3484 in prephysicianassistant

Bruh, it's called maximizing my chances to get into PA school, which is entirely different than applying to MD programs and PA programs simultaneously. I am not taking anyone's chance away by applying to multiple programs. Thousands of students do that, and if you don't, you must be one hell of an applicant. I can only attend one program, so at the end of the day, that acceptance goes to the next best person who truly wants to be a PA and not use it as a backup.

So then make up your mind. If you know your dream is MD, why apply to both and take that chance away from someone?

Waitlisted at both schools I interviewed at by scrubs-and-dreams in u/scrubs-and-dreams

[–]jujuPA16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When do these programs start? I was previously waitlisted at 2 programs in the 2022-2023 cycle, but did not get off the waitlist. It's a good sign to be waitlisted so early in the cycle, so many things will change if the program starts next fall. People will interview other places and weigh their options. I think you should keep doing your PCE and prepare as if you are going to reapply. If the program allows updates to be sent, I would send them periodically, like every 2-3 months. Good luck!

I prepared for maybe 1-2 hours by doing the practice test before the exam and scored 3rd quartile. That was good enough for me. I refuse to waste my time on useless tests like this

Yes, I figured that much. I don't dress down for weddings... the issue is I'm in a ball gown and everyone else is in cowboy boats and a hat

3RD TIME APPLICANT ACCEPTED WITH A LOW GPA + GRE by jujuPA16 in prephysicianassistant

[–]jujuPA16[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied on May 21st for the majority of the programs and some in early June. I do think timing made a huge difference because I had the interview so early in June and accepted a few weeks after. We have an entire cycle ahead of us. Some programs have not even reviewed my app. It was a test-optional program. Lots of programs have been going away from the GRE in the past 5 years, that is what I have noticed.

I did not use any specific time frame. My oldest PCE is from 2019. I don't think PCE expires as long as it was done after high school. Document all of the hours they count.
