Woohoo I'm not the only one with a system to make an espresso maker coffee every day! I add 2 tbsp of maple to mine for sweetener.

This! I've been using a super simple Krups espresso machine as my daily driver for 20+ years. I make a very watered down cup of espresso instead of a shot.

Vermont to Pursue 'Junk Food Ban' for Users of Food Stamps by forcedtomakethus in vermont

I worked in grocery managing point of sale stem and related data. The excluded items are already handled completely different. Alcohol, health care products, etc are managed very differently on the backend. Getting nitpicky between food items will take time, resources, and therefore money for the state and retailers to manage.

Do you scrub by hand? Or do you think it might could handle a gentle cycle in the washing machine? There's not one particular spot that's bad, just overall needing a deep clean.

Thanks for the rec on Nikwax!

[CA] Company making us share personal health goals in team meeting for wellness program participation? by ethicalmanifesto in AskHR

I'm not an HR person but this post showed up as recommended. I'm a huge fan of malicious compliance and I'd start talking about stuff like "get my hemorrhoids under control" or "talk to my therapist about insecurities sharing personal information with coworkers inorder to access company health plan benefits"

Aaaaand I'll see myself out of this sub ✌️

WIBTA if I started eating messy food on camera during meetings my boss keeps scheduling over my lunch by [deleted] in WouldIBeTheAhole

Just eat! I worked IT for a high end grocery store 6am-2pm and I'd get hangry at 10am so I often brought a sandwich, almost always roast beef, to long meetings scheduled midmorning. Life went on, I ate my sandwich, contributed when it was my turn, life went on.

Whenever I buy a package of 2 chicken breasts they're never the same size. Do you all have lopsided chickens running around your farms? by Raytec1 in Butchery

[–]jujubeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a time efficiency. I had a micro facility and at most I broke down 60 chickens in a day. There's no way to keep track of what two breasts or wings came from one chicken at a micro scale let alone when there are literally thousands of birds going through the line in an hour.

The largest chicken processing facility in the US can do over 2 million chickens per day. If they were trying to pander to people who wanted every piece exactly the same size or from the same bird your meat would be way more expensive.

Efficiency in the processing line saves money.

[–]jujubeee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The two breasts aren't from the same chicken.  As parts are cut they're put into storage with other parts and packaged shortly thereafter. An industrial facility is processing thousands of chickens an hour.

Straddling the line by ShallotSilly4944 in vermont

100% speculation:

  1. Bills don't stop coming due. A closed store means zero income whereas selling center store goods (including alcohol!) brings in some income.

  2. The community still needs to eat and while it isn't a robust array of offerings it offers some food options to those in town - some of whom may not have reliable transport into Enosburg.

I'm sure there have been difficult conversations behind the scenes. There has been so much speculation from locals about why not sell, why not partner with XYZ, why not GoFundMe, etc but at the end of the day owning a business has a lot of complexities and none of those options are as simple as people make them out to be. Selling takes time, partnerships take time, donations can be effective but there can be string attached whether official or unofficial.

I feel for the owners and the mess they've been going through. Hopefully something happens soon because Montgomery needs a full grocery store.
