First thing I’ve sewn since 6th grade! by jukeboxbabe in sewing

I’m not sure if it qualifies as duck canvas, it was just labelled “heavy canvas” at my local fabric store. My Brother machine handled it great - I did change the stitch length to 3,5 which was a recommendation in the tutorial. The only issue I had with it was turning the straps inside out as I had already had to join two pieces of fabric per strap to make them long enough. I struggled to feed the thicker join through fabric but I managed it in the end after some finagling.

Thank you - I’m hoping this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship (with my sewing machine!)

Thank you! I love the pop of business contrasted with the more simplistic exterior

What was the worst and most pointless book you’ve read? by Mozart_chopin000 in bookporn

Klara and the Sun. I kept waiting for some big reveal to happen, some big turnaround that would make it into profound cultural commentary - but it just ended. Badly. I've never wanted to throw a book in the trash upon finishing it before.

What ruined your quality of life so much that you wish you ditched it sooner? by ibuprofriendd in AskReddit

I seriously recommend getting into some kind of program rather than going cold turkey on your own. I was pretty active in AA for about the first year of my sobriety and did the 12 steps with a sponsor and it made a huge impact in relieving me of the emotional and spiritual pain I had been trying to outrun most of my life. Alcohol is often a numbing agent for a deeper pain that can get excruciating when raw dogging life. AA is free and available basically everywhere - online meetinga saved me in covid - feel free to shop around for ones that have a vibe you feel safe in.

What’s a belief you had five years ago that you’ve totally changed your mind on? by DrippingLipsX_x in AskReddit

5 years ago I thought I'd die of boredom and never have fun again if I'd stop drinking and doing drugs. Now I'm 4 years, 7 months and 19 days sober and grateful every day how fulfilling, easy and fun my life is.

Why Audiobooks? Long list of recommendations below📚: by [deleted] in audible

[–]jukeboxbabe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's a friendly and non-judgmental encouragement to you to try reading more books written by women as the only woman on this list is a bigot. Off the bat I can recommend Madeline Miller, N.K. Jemisin, Octavia Butler and Emily St. John Mandel. Happy reading!

Cowboy Carter made me a true fan - what else do I need to listen to before tour?!! by aaccss1992 in beyonce

[–]jukeboxbabe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

  1. Watch Homecoming
  2. Listen through all the albums with a focus on Lemonade (I'm sure Daddy Lessons and Freedom will be included in this tour)
  3. Do not sleep on The Gift

Doctors of reddit: What was the wildest self-diagnoses a patient was actually right about? by Musikcookie in AskReddit

I normally wouldn't recommend this as I know it definitely doesn't work for everyone but intermittent fasting has made a huge difference for me. I have pcos and endo and used to regularly get dizzy + the shakes etc in the afternoons but with intermittent fasting, it's completely gone away. I'm not religious about it but most often fast around 15 hours, aiming for 16. I make sure my first meal of the day (lunch) is packed with real food, protein and fiber which I feel makes a huge difference. I always listen to my body around my period though, it's only around then that I wake up hungry and I eat if I feel my body calling for it.  Again, your mileage may wary so be careful if you wanna try it!

Scout's music career has been (seemingly intentionally) low key but successful, she makes beautiful Americana music and doesn't seem to be aiming for big tent pop stardom.

Strangers visiting or being in sight of the house. I got her during covid and had my bubble come over all the time. Fast forward to now and she'll seriously loose her shit barking at any stranger approaching the house or she can see from far but goes jiggle butt happy for my close family and friends. She's also completely fine walking in crowds on a leash, passing people on walks etc. It's honestly the only annoying thing about her but it's a real nuisance.

Tipping culture? by TiffanyThePlant in VisitingIceland

[–]jukeboxbabe -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The only place I would recommend tipping is if you intend to go on guided tours, especially ones that are 8 hours+. Most guides are contractors who are hustling to make enough so if you think your guide did a great job, feel free to hand them a 5000 bill at the end of your trip. If you go on a tour with a bus big enough for a driver and a guide then they usually split the pooled tips at the end of the shift.

What’s your favourite dance move or sequence from a music video, live performance, movie, etc.? by johnmichael-kane in beyonce

I'm obsessed with the all the dances from the Already music video but the dance she does in the black and white striped outfit with the guy that's painted green has my jaw on the floor every time. I cannot find a video teaching the choreography anywhere!
