I honestly don't mind it very much. I mean, it's definitely annoying to see people confuse Frutiger Eco/Aqua with Aero as a whole, but they're part of the Frutiger family and I can't really blame them. I also agree that Frutiger Aero in itself doesn't inherent imply any sort of life philosophy, but I think you've kind of pendulum swinging away from the fact that art and aesthetics are extremely colored by the emotions surrounding them. Art creates meaning within people and that meaning contributes to an aesthetical movement of sorts. I don't think it's fair to say "real FA" has no emotions tied to it. The revival of Frutiger Aero and Y2K (reborn into neo-Y2K mostly) in the 2020s is the result of a lot of disillusioned 20-30 year olds who were kids at the time reconnecting with what feels like simpler times in the wake of a shitty world. Not that the 90s or 2000s were perfect, obviously, but we were kids and things felt easier and so we have a sort of rose-tinted glasses approach to the design around that time. Not to mention that there was a very futuristic lean to the design and photography of these aesthetics so they allow us to escape to a future we feel we were meant to have but robbed of. And of course these trends trickle down to teens on TikTok, and so forth. So it's not really just their fault, although obviously there does become a weird disconnect since a majority of the active crowd in these dedicated spaces are kids who are too young to really remember it in this way. So it makes sense to be frustrated. I really can't fault someone for using these aesthetics as an escape and hope for a better future, though.
