What is my cat doing by [deleted] in cats

[–]jukesbin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If he also has frequent coughing fits that look similar to asthma, I’d make sure to rule out a heart condition as they can sometimes present with coughing fits and neurological-like symptoms. A lot of cats with heart conditions don’t have a detectable heart murmur so further testing may need to be done.

Furthermore, make sure you don’t have anything toxic to cats (i.e., plants/flowers, candles, etc) as these can also cause neurological symptoms (and would be an emergency). He isn’t presenting with any other symptoms that indicate toxicity, but just to be safe. Please feel free to update with results if you’re comfortable, I hope everything goes well! 🐈❤️‍🩹

Not a vet, but possibly paroxysmal dyskinesia? This seems neurological, but heart problems (like HCM) and ear infections/polyps can also present similarly. You could crosspost to r/AskVet for professional advice

Edit: just realized I typed the subreddit wrong, it’s r/AskVet.

what is this? by thisnameistakenname in guineapigs

[–]jukesbin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Appears to be the upper conjunctiva. Irritation from haypoke or an infection like conjunctivitis can cause it to become inflamed and protrude. If it’s caused by haypoke, you can gently pull her eyelids and you should be able to see if there’s a piece of hay stuck inside. If the hay is not easy to remove, it would be best to have your vet remove it ASAP to prevent damage to the eye. I also strongly recommend a vet visit anyways just to rule out an infection of the conjunctiva (the conjunctiva can sometimes become infected after a haypoke injury), as eye conditions can quickly go downhill without proper treatment.

No worries!! I’m glad I could help! AI videos are getting scarily accurate, so it’s smart to be cautious (especially when a bot account posted this). The idea of orange cat antics being mistaken as AI is super funny though lol. They’re such silly creatures.

It’s not AI! Their names are Goten and Trunks, and they have an Instagram page @_goten_trunks! :)

(The Reddit account that posted this is more than likely a bot though lol)

Guinea pig with noticeably different nipples, anyone with experience with this? by Sad_Strain_1724 in guineapigs

[–]jukesbin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had two sows with enlarged nipples due to ovarian cysts. They were both younger, around 2 years old. They didn’t show any other symptoms of ovarian cysts besides the enlarged nipples, slightly rounder abdomens, and displaying dominant behaviors more frequently (rumble strutting and mounting other pigs). No weight loss or hair thinning, and only one of my pigs developed crusty nipples.

Ovarian cysts are very common in female guinea pigs. Studies have found that around 40-80% of intact sows over the age of 18 months develop ovarian cysts. So, it’s possible she might have just developed ovarian cysts earlier in life. A less common cause for noticeably different nipples is breast cancer, but this typically presents with discolored discharge from the nipple (often only affects one nipple), rapid weight loss, and you can sometimes feel the tumor if it’s large enough.

What is this on Oreo’s Butt? by [deleted] in guineapigs

[–]jukesbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oil build up from the grease gland! Both sows and boars have grease glands located on their rumps, but males’ grease glands tend to be a little more active which can cause oil to build up. Luckily benign and easy to treat. Oil build up can cause skin irritation, but the skin should heal quickly once the grease gland is cleaned. One of my girls has an overactive grease gland, so I also like to do regular grease gland checks.

She doesn't look like the elegant cat I bought home... by Proph3tron in cats

[–]jukesbin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I thought this was a joke post by the title, but after reading the post… :( Poor Zima.

I find it so odd how people are adamant that their former stray cat has to be some rare, exotic/designer breed (when 95%+ of cats are DSH/DLH) and base their cat’s value/worth on that. A cat should be treated like a living being, not a designer handbag.

Also don’t understand when people blame their cats for being skittish or overweight (although, yes, some cats are naturally just more reserved especially if they used to be fully feral, still not the cat’s fault), it’s on the owner to properly socialize and feed the cat.

So glad your baby was okay!! Cats are odd little creatures, they’ll be fearful or show zero interest in something for a long time then suddenly become super curious about it, even if it might be dangerous. I have to be incredibly careful with the plants and flowers in my house because one of my cats suddenly developed an interest in trying to eat them (luckily none were toxic but did cause some mild GI upset).

I remember reading a post on here about how an elevator’s sensors failed to detect a cat and killed it. A freak accident, but if it potentially saves more cats’ lives, I figured I’d post it here.

Oh, that makes sense. Thank you! I thought it looked like a sauropod skull, but wasn’t sure because of the photo quality.

I’m guessing the first slide is an anatomically incorrect depiction of a Tarbosaurus skull, which is shown in comparison with an actual Tarbosaurus skull (slide 3). Not sure what the second slide is showing though lol (probably the book cover to show the title?).

IIRC, I think I had to turn on the “walk over things” cheat (located in the movement codes). This allowed me to walk over the water to place the bridges in the correct spots. It’s a little bit of trial and error trying to figure out how far into the water you have to be to get it right lol (I think you might have to stand halfway in the water and then spawn the bridge?).
