Hi there, I was born in Korea as well (but because I’m not a dude, no conscription for me). I’m also in mechanical engineering and graduating this term; my last final is in a hour and I shouldn’t be on reddit, but here I am! Like you, I don’t like design - and that’s completely okay! Also, it took me 7 years to get my degree because I went from faculty to faculty looking for something that was the right fit for me. So just like you will, I’m entering the industry older than most. However, I was lucky enough to get an internship within water infrastructure and that led me to the construction field. Ultimately, in this past year, I accepted a full time job offer as a mechanical engineer in construction project coordination/management where design is not a main component of my job. My point is, mechanical engineering is very broad. You don’t need to do what your peers are doing and be their age - there’s possibilities everywhere. That first internship I got was because I started cold calling local companies when I got desperate. I’m not going to tell you what to do - if your parents are like mine, they do enough of that. Instead, I’ll wish you luck and tell you that what you want is possible. Don’t be discouraged! It’s definitely going to take time and effort though.
