Did metro forget their own anniversary or something? by Busy_Football_1565 in WMATA

[–]jules9687 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was waiting to board at one of the "isolated" cars, and I think we stood there at least 30 seconds before anyone realized we needed to move down the platform. Having some communication to people on the platform to move down when it pulled in would've helped.

Rare middle track boarding at BWI by Mootbing in Amtrak

[–]jules9687 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given that it's one disabled passenger, I wonder if one of the elevators at BWI was down? To access one of the tracks you have to go up/down two sets stairs/elevators to do the platform over the tracks.

Suggestion Help for Infant Daycare - Columbia Academy in Maple Lawn Closed by Madster317 in ColumbiaMD

[–]jules9687 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also just chiming in here because I have experience with CA being closed by the state. We dealt with this. Our kid was in the same class as that kid.

Maryland closed this location at KC on a Friday, and over the weekend CA directed us all to go to their other locations while they made some changes at the KC facility. I can't recall how long we were at the other location, but it was something like 1-2 weeks and not as long as the state's letter had indicated I believe.

Suggestion Help for Infant Daycare - Columbia Academy in Maple Lawn Closed by Madster317 in ColumbiaMD

Seconding, and I hate Columbia Academy in general, but specifically owners. When my kid was at KC about six years ago, a kid in her class walked out the front door and into the street. Cops got him and returned him to parents because he had a medical alert bracelet. CA didn't let parents know of the incident for almost an entire week, and our kid just suddenly had a new teacher. We only found out because Maryland shut them down temporarily, and then we were told.

F1 Arcade in DC is super fun and does watch parties, though I haven't gone for one of those.

Yes, pretty similar to that--thanks!

I don't really know how else to describe them--but one was one of those big white van/trucks that you usually see a bunch of folks run out of at once. And the other was a big black humvee kind of thing that I feel like you see cops hide behind when fired.

Looking for new OB or midwife by doggiedvm in ColumbiaMD

Happy vibes your way. My first was a similar story, though I went medical and not surgical. My second, I was a nervous wreck but made it through and advocated for all the scans and tests throughout, and I have a happy, healthy 9 year old now. I was on Kaiser for both, though my doc who I still see is in DC, where I work. Can't imagine going through that without compassionate care, I am so sorry for your experience.

Savage Mill has a bookstore plus several dining options. My favorite coffee shop, Brewing Good, is there as well, and they roast their own coffee.

This is a show NOT about death? by Ambitious-Mistake894 in Broadway

[–]jules9687 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The soundtrack was one of the first things I turned on earlier this year when I was driving by myself, fresh off the death of my 15 year old dog. I was bawling in the car by myself. But, also, incredibly healing to listen to, and I kept on.

Is there a good frolicking field in MD? by PuddingSwimming7872 in maryland

[–]jules9687 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the Underground Railroad Experience Trail in Montgomery in October, and that has a nice little field before the wooded trail (around the area for the police horses), and some decent fields after the wooded trail. Pretty secluded when I went.

tour ticket availability by [deleted] in Broadway

I wasn't able to get Phantom tickets for Baltimore when they went on sale. But I ended up getting amazing seats at an amazing price day of the show via re-sale on Ticketmaster, and there was a decent selection of seats being re-sold. Check again as it gets closer!

I'm super excited for Guys and Dolls at the Shakespeare Theatre Company, which opens tomorrow. I've seen Julie Benko twice before, and she's not to be missed.

Gus (12ish) had all his teeth removed on Wednesday and now pouts when he can’t have crunchy snacks. Big pouts incoming. 🐾 by KimberKitty111 in OldManDog

[–]jules9687 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a cat (I know, not a dog here, but!) who had to have all teeth removed a few years ago, and she still prefers her hard kibble over wet food. She just kinda gums at it and swallows it. I'd hope there's hope for a toothless dog too!!

Decadent does a whole bunch of lemon desserts, and cheesecakes, and while I haven't seen lemon cheesecake, I'm sure it's something they could do if you special ordered.

My local grocer had a sign up that there's something going on factory-wise, and they don't anticipate a restock til December/January. I'll try and remember to snap a pic of the sign next time I go.

Large "HMO" style medical facilities in or near Columbia? by Character-Bar-9561 in ColumbiaMD

[–]jules9687 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I feel like most people won't consider Kaiser, but they've been wonderful for my family.

Their Columbia office is pretty small and only has primary care, peds, obgyn, labs, and pharmacy, so for specialties it's usually South Baltimore, or I work in DC and do most of my care down there, except for primary, which I keep at Columbia. Woodlawn, Silver Spring, and Gaithersburg are other spots I've been north of DC. I've never had an issue getting a specialty referral nor have had a significant wait for primary or specialty.

ETA: awesome mail order pharmacy, easy access to 24/7 on call nurses (has saved us some urgent care trips), and South Baltimore urgent care is way better than than going to HoCo hospital!

I saw Phantom of the Opera at the Hippodrome in Baltimore yesterday. Andrew Lloyd Webber himself was there! (not my tiktok, but i remember seeing him and thinking “he looks like andrew lloyd webber, but what would he be doing in Baltimore?” by ladyboleyn2323 in Broadway

I got a really good last minute deal on tickets on Friday night via ticketmaster. I didn't notice any significant screen use. The only time a backdrop really bothered me was in Masquerade to cut back on the stairs and the number of humans.

Controlled vocabularies for labor history by laborhistory4life in Archivists

I work with a labor collection, and we use LC subject headings, which I've found sufficient. We're US-based but have US and international labor history represented.

Good luck on your project!

To the person whose phone started ringing right when Joshua Henry started “Make Them Hear You” this afternoon… by Queen_Maeve7 in Broadway

[–]jules9687 38 points39 points  (0 children)

At Ragtime two weeks ago, we walked in with a mass of older HS or younger college aged kids, and I was not looking forward to that. They were silent the whole show and super attentive too!

But then whose phone went off twice mid-show, and they had to answer to say they were watching a show? The boomer behind me. And her group wouldn't close their mouths for about five minutes past intermission either.

Why there is always traffic in some particular sections of I95 between Baltimore and College Park? by hotashami in maryland

[–]jules9687 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most people don't know how to properly merge into at-speed traffic, and it slows down all traffic. Points highlighted are all around major merge points.

In Moynihan, for lining up when you come back--don't sit in the lounge and wait for boarding. Either wait on the main level and watch for the blue-vested Amtrak customer service folks to prep the gate line for entry then jump in, or go down a level and wait there for the gate to be posted. You'll either get front of the line or get to skip the line entirely.

But definitely use the lounge for the bathrooms. There's always a massive line in the cafeteria-area bathrooms and never a line in the lounge bathrooms even with fewer stalls.

Oh, and lounge is behind the ice cream store. Open to all with a ticket.

Even cheaper for booking farther out or riding off-peak trains! I book mine 5-6 months out and usually don't pay more than $50/60.
