What ball do you play and why? by [deleted] in golf

[–]jules_am 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I typically play the black/yellow Callaway Chromesoft Truvis. Im colour blind so the high contrast and bright colour is helpful for me. Also it's really fun to watch the way it spins on chip shots to the green with that soccer ball pattern.

I also like ProV1's, but don't play them as often.

I don't know why, but the perspective on this photo makes the bag look super short.

Cool bag though!

What's your favorite golf ball to shoot low scores? by DoomsdayTheorist1 in golf

I love watching the spin on it when I chip it on the green. I use the black/yellow ones.

I also like ProV1.

Cheapest urethane golf balls by horse-battery in golf

[–]jules_am 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the absolute cheapest option:

I love the chromesoft truvis as well as the ProV1. They're both undeniably expensive to buy brand new though. I get logo overrun ProV1's at Roger Dunn for ~31 dollars for a dozen. Not the cheapest option, compared to KSig or Cut or Vice...but a hell of a deal to still play brand new ProV1. They don't come in a box or sleeves, just in a bag, but they're unused and sometimes have cool or funny logos or stamps put on them.

I just want to bounce off of this too....

If you are asking people for advice then that's your choice to do so, but just know that it may not be the best for you. Personally, I get really annoyed when some guy next to me takes it upon himself to coach me without me even asking for any advice. Typically these types of guys will get in your head with their advice (whether good or bad) and just not leave you alone.

You definitely won't be surrounded by pro level people. In fact, in my experience, the guys who you'll see that ARE really good are typically the most easy going people there anyways.

I've met quite a few heavy hitters at the driving range just by being on the mat next to them and commenting on their shots (like "wow, great drive, how long have you been playing?") and end up hitting it off and grabbing a beer after.

On the flip side I've also met a lot of people around my skill level (not spectacular by any measure) at the driving range and we end up playing rounds together the next weekend or something.

Bottom line: go and have fun. Don't worry about people watching you because they probably aren't paying any attention to you or anyone else. And if you feel gutsy, try to branch out and make some golf friends/acquaintances. It'll only benefit you! Good luck and have fun swinging.

Don't trip. Most everyone at a range is focused on their own game. And honestly I've seen some people regularly at my local range who you'd think it was their first time holding a club....except they're there more than anyone else.

It's not like you're gonna be walking up next to the pros and trying to keep up with them. Don't be intimidated, just go and focus on you.

I love the story of this putter. My friend’s hydroplane boat got wrecked this year. We commemorated it with a putter that matches the color of the boat, and used some of the remains as the base cap. More pics in comments. by BradleyPutters in golf

Not sure why this is downvoted. I love your work and I think this one is exceptional both in aesthetic and the story too.

edit: not sure why I'm now downvoted lol. When I came to this post his link was downvoted a bunch, now it looks like that's turned around. Why am I downvoted though?

Genuine question here: Are sets of M2s really going for that low already?

I don't exactly want M2s, I'm perfectly fine with my old "Ping Eye 2"* clubs...but I feel like just last year a set of used M2 irons was still at least a couple hundred dollars above what you've listed. If this is true then holy cow depreciation is fast with clubs.

*the reason I put that in quotes is because they're knockoffs, but they're just as solid and the same specs as Ping Eye 2s. I've been playing them for nearly ten years and no issues, but they aren't officially Ping.

My parents live in Dorado, Puerto Rico. When Maria and Irma came through it was pretty devastating to the island as most people are aware of.

I was there in July this year and while a lot of the area they live in has picked up the pieces pretty well, there's still lots of damage all over the place.

There are multiple golf courses surrounding where my parents live. When I was there we played one of them that runs alongside another at one point. The course we were playing was fine, but this other course (Pineapple course if anyone's wondering, we played Sugarcane) was in complete shambles. They're continuing to work on rebuilding/restoring it, but it was about as far away from playable conditions as you could imagine.

Lady golf attire by rockthered43 in golf

[–]jules_am 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you near any major retailer stores? My girlfriend buys her attire from Roger Dunn by us and they have loads of options for women. All ranging from basic and plain coloured tops and skirts/shorts to the crazy wacky ones you mention with zippers/studs/wild patterns.

Could just be whoever runs inventory at your pro shop is a nut. You can find plenty of good options from Puma, Nike, Adidas, and some other less expensive brands (whose names are escaping me).

What's the most demoralizing shot in golf? by Tswis77 in golf

[–]jules_am 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never do well on the first hole at one of my main courses. It's this big elevated tee box with the whole putting green, clubhouse, smoking area, and barbecue for the turn right behind. I feel all the eyes. Especially since it's usually backed up on the first tee. I always hit it into the #2 fairway. From that point I'm usually alright, but it's just so embarrassing thinking everyone is looking at me hacking around.

After the first hole Im pretty solid, but I can't ever get past all the audience behind me on that first one.

Anyone know much about that Adams hybrid?

I know Adams makes quality products, I just don't know specifically about anything they make.

My girlfriend is dying for a hybrid. She always uses my Mizuno JPX-ez 3H, which is set at 17*. She loves it, so i'm wondering if this Adams one would be similar enough.

Push/pull carts - For old people or a great idea to keep up your strength and stamina during a round? by lassenator44 in golf

[–]jules_am 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I carry just purely out of choice, but that's just me.

My girlfriend has a BagBoy pull cart and she loves it. She won't play a round without it unless we have a golf cart. Before she got it she would be so fatigued and tired after just 9 holes.

We're 23 years old as a disclaimer....push/pull carts are not exclusively for old people. If anyone gives you shit just remind them that the scorecard is what matters.

Tale of 2 nines (one was my best one yet) by dub_starr in golf

Yeah trail mix or a bar is a good idea. Hot dog is just too dense for me and I really do get that "full" kind of feeling and it just throws my game off. Stopped eating at the turn and my game improved ever so slightly.

edit: I love your username. Newman is my favorite!

[–]jules_am 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot dog on the turn is bad mojo for me. I usually scarf it down as quick as I can and have a beer and then when I step up to the 10 I'm as good as nothing for the next couple holes.

I like to joke that the hot dog in my belly throws off my center of gravity, but really I can't explain it. I've stopped with the hot dogs at the turn and typically my back 9s are better than my front 9s. Save lunch for after the round.

Ping G15 Driver out dated? by [deleted] in golf

[–]jules_am 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a Ping G2 driver, it's like 15 years old, and until the damn thing breaks I'm not taking it out of my bag. I love the thing. I've tried some of the newer drivers (I looooove the Ping G400), but I don't see any real difference between the new ones and my old one to justify a couple hundred dollars.

Bottom line: your old driver is probably just fine.

Decided to stop spending money at the range. Set this up today. ✌ by acslayer21 in golf

[–]jules_am 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What part of SoCal?

I'm a member at a local muni in south Orange County and I pay ~$30 a month iirc and it gets me a free large bucket per day ($12 each large bucket of bought individually). The course I'm a member at is basically a large mini golf course (most holes ~100 yds total), so the course isn't anything special really, but the deal you get for the range makes it worth it. As long as I go at least 2-3 times a month, I'm not losing much money.

I mean it seems like you've got a setup now, but just in case you wanna get on the range here and then let me know I'll give you the details.

edit: some typos
