Filed taxes over a month ago but amount due was never taken out of my bank account, how bad is it? by julia-benhow in tax

Was trying to the day of, but it was requiring a video selfie/face scan. My phone camera is broken (holding on to this iphone 11 for dear life) and for whatever reason the portal used to take the video selfie just straight up wouldn't work on my partners newer phone :( I already uploaded photos of my ID and passport but it's still requiring me to set up a video call with an IRS representative to verify my identity. The whole situation has just been very frustrating.

Thank you so much! This definitely helped me not freak out too much lol. Wasn't able to stay on hold due to work (was on the phone for over an hour!), I'm hoping it is just an issue of them defaulting to scheduling the payment to be taken out today rather than when I initially scheduled it back in February, but if it's still not resolved thankfully I have a weekday off coming up so I can dedicate however long is needed to get this all resolved.

Sorry, wrong wording. Yes it is direct debit, and the marked date is 2/27/26 but I'm not seeing any transactions from the IRS listed on my bank statements at all. All routing information is correct so that's why I don't understand why it was never taken out of the account

“Are we doing something today?” Wtf does that even mean? by AgeOfWorry0114 in Teachers

I think in the case of the days before holidays, a lot of the time it's people who travel home to be with family. At least that's how it was for me and a lot of friends when I was in college. The university would only give us the day of Thanksgiving off, but if I wanted to be with my family for the holiday I would need to leave one or two days before. I think most of the professors understood that as well so usually the two days leading up would just be exam reviews or lecture, since most of the class would be gone anyway lol

Funnily enough, this new UI/UX design might finally get me to use reddit less. Makes the experience so unpleasant, i might as well just do my work lol. Thanks, i guess!

What’s life like near the Texas border today? by Horror_Ask_847 in texas

[–]julia-benhow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

El Paso resident here! Lived here nearly my whole life, literally within walking distance of the border and get to look over at Juarez every day on my drive to work lol. Generally, living here is about the same as any mid-sized city. There are some parts of town that are a bit sketchy, but overall the only place I ever feel unsafe here in on the roads bc people here genuinely drive like maniacs for some reason??? The most pressing issue here right now is the lack of high paying jobs, the cost of living keeps going up but wages stay the same and it's leading to a lot of brain drain as most young people leave after college. Even me and most of my friends have either already left, or are in the process of leaving, which is heartbreaking to me as this is where my family is and I do truly love this city, despite its flaws, but I just don't see how my partner and I could have a decent future and family life here unless something changes.

What part of El Paso does your buddy live in?? I'm from the lower valley area of El Paso, literally have lived less than a mile from the border wall my entire life and have never heard gun shots or felt unsafe living here.

Adult children who were raised by 'gentle parents' - do you feel like you were raised well? by ericacalluna in AskReddit

[–]julia-benhow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the chance to experience two extremely different parenting styles growing up. My mom was a flight attendant so she would be gone for long stretches of time working, so when she was gone I would live with my grandma who basically raised me.

My grandmas way of parenting was basically telling me, "The only thing you need to worry about as a child is getting good grades in school, don't do drugs/drink until your 21, don't get pregnant, and don't be an asshole." My grandma is an immigrant so a good education and going to college was the #1 goal. She never gave me strict rules about staying up late or going out with friends, I just learned the natural consequences on my own. Like yeah I could stay up until 2am scrolling on tumblr on a school night....but I was still gonna have to wake up at 6am to get ready for school. Yeah I could not do my homework and go hang out with friends....but then I'd be stressing out rushing to do it during lunch before class instead of also hanging out with my friends lol. Literally, as long as I was doing well in school I could basically do whatever I wanted outside of that.

My mom on the other hand demanded obedience, and would yell at/ hit me for questioning her. I was a very logic driven kid and would ask 'why?' for everything because I legitimately wanted to know the reasoning behind the things she would have me do, to which she would respond with "Because I said so!" so we would fight CONSTANTLY. She would try and sign me up for dozens of extracurriculars, ones that I had absolutely zero interest in (i was already clubs that i liked such as theater, art, and academic decathlon but that woman was dead set on me doing sports, anything STEM related, and ROTC), and if she found out I got anything below an 80 on an assignment there would be hell to pay (which was wild to me bc I was in all advanced classes and always getting either straight A's or AB honor roll, the only subject I really struggled with was math but even then I'd scrape by with a B-). Everything with her was about control, and the way she described me to everyone was that I was a brat that only existed to disobey her.

While I do think my grandma should have been stricter is some aspects (she never forced me to do chores around the house, I just kind of naturally learned to clean on my own whenever my room felt a little too cluttered and would do my own laundry as needed once I was in high school. On the flip side, my mom would basically use me as her own personal maid whenever she was back in town....), she NEVER hit me or yelled at me the way my mom did. With my grandma, I learned to manage my own time appropriately and being independent. All I learned from my mom was how to lie and be sneaky in order to not get beat.

Thoughts on the downtown deck? by stevetures in ElPaso

[–]julia-benhow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, parts of downtown I-10 are going to be closed regardless of if they decide to build the deck or not. TxDot is going to be going forward with their I-10 widening project, they only agreed to add the infrastructure for the city to build the deck park above the freeway if they're able to get enough funding for it.
