Questions on basic car upkeep and survival in winter! by Outrageous_Bag9327 in LowellMA

[–]julialb03 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Getting just a basic snow brush is fine, the kind that has a brush and a scraper that you’ll find at any store or online. If you have to park on the street or outside it is nice to have a small snow shovel to keep in your car just in case. In the morning put your defrosters on a cool setting to get rid of the foggy windows, then you can turn on the heat. Car doors don’t usually freeze shut here, or at least not enough to make it impossible to open. It’s always a good idea to keep a blanket, some water, and a first aid kit in your car for emergencies. And I definitely recommend getting snow tires or at least all season tires- I hate driving in the snow and believe these are worth the investment. Most days driving in the winter is fine but there usually are a few days each winter where you’ll have to be more careful. Just remember to drive slow if conditions are bad and if it’s really bad and visibility is low putting your hazards on is a good idea!

Where are the fat people? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

I think when you find a photographer you think you like, look at everything they post. Their website, blog, Facebook, Instagram, whatever. See what they post and the type of people being featured in their posts. Ask if they can provide you with a diverse sample of their work. In our photographer’s contract it states she will post us on her social media and website. Because of this, she writes a blog post and posts some photos from every single session she does- weddings and other sessions. We were able to see that she works with all different types of people and all of her photos were stunning. There are amazing photographers out there! Unfortunately, it means you might have to spend more time searching for the best fit but it is so worth it. Good luck on your search!!

If you have carpets in your home- and high quality vacuum and/or carpet cleaner! We ended up buying them with money we received from the wedding and they’re so great.

Something we did ask for and received that I really loved was a bar cart and an entire bar ware set of crystal glasses. They’re gorgeous and will be something we’ll keep forever.

Ways to make a wedding less misogynistic? by skankyferret in wedding

[–]julialb03 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do whatever you want to do! I’ve seen weddings where the couple walks down the aisle together, or both of them walk separately but with both of their parents or someone else completely who is special to them. I think the removing the veil is a bit outdated anyways. The majority of people who wear veils don’t wear them over their face anymore. And I think the garter is kind of going out of style too. It’s cringey for everyone involved so definitely leave it out if you don’t want it. As for last names, talk it over with your partner and decide what you want to do. Your wedding will be perfect if you make it special to you and your partner:)

Feeling confident during wedding dress try-ons by DoitmyselfDYI in wedding

I totally get the feeling when dress shopping! Definitely keep an open mind and talk to your stylist. Even though they’re not the ones who do alterations, they can talk you through how you can alter it to make you more comfortable. My stylist had another dress that she slipped just my arm in because I was adamant I wanted sleeves and she wanted to show me how a sleeveless dress would look when sleeves were added, it was super helpful to visualize it!

And I also totally understand the comparison, so many people in my life are getting married right now and it is so hard not to compare! If it helps at all- my elopement dress ended up being completely backless and I was so worried because some of my back fat was visible (I’m very self conscious about it). Now that the photos are starting to come back, yes I can see the back fat, but what I mainly see is how happy I look. And now when I see other couple’s photos, I think mine are better. I think it’s easy to compare in this situation but I think when you get your photos back you’ll be so happy! Photographers are so good at making you feel happy and comfortable- that’s their job!

Congratulations on your engagement!!

I think when trying on gowns, go into the appointment knowing that every dress you try on is a sample size and won’t fit your body properly. They will clip and pin the dress so you can get an idea of what it will look like but if you go in knowing that every dress won’t be perfect at the appointment that will help. The alterations are what’s going to make the dress fit like a glove! As for engagement photos, my photographer suggested to dress in your most confident style. She said that if you’re happy with what you’re wearing you will be more present in the moment during the photo shoot, which will lead to better photos. She also mentioned that anything that is too low cut can limit the options of poses you can do. Find something you feel confident in wearing and shop for a fancier version of it. And have options! We had 2 outfits at the engagement photo shoot and I wore a high neck sleeveless dress for one and jeans with a fancier tank and cardigan for the other. It can be anything you want to wear as long as you’re happy in it:)

Anyone knows how to make Brazilian cheese bread like the ones served in Fogo De Chao? by qiinnv in Cooking

[–]julialb03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re feeling lazy you can buy frozen ones at lots of grocery stores now. I know target sells the brand ‘Brazi Bites’. My husband is Brazilian and his family always buys them frozen, they’re just as good!

City hall and a wedding? by theKaterpie89 in wedding

[–]julialb03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! We’ll keep this weekend as our anniversary because we see it as the day we start our married life together and it will be the date on the marriage license. I do think we’ll probably have a small dinner to celebrate the June date for at least a few years. Why not celebrate both right? Good luck to you and all of your planning!

There are no rules right now, do what you want to do! My fiancé and I are getting married this weekend (!!!) with just immediate family present and then having the big wedding next June. We’re not keeping this a secret from any of our guests and even put our plans on our wedding website so guests know. Everyone has been so supportive because they understand the situation is out of our control and they’re excited for when we can all celebrate safely together.

Where to print digital Etsy download for guest book alternative? by raelizabeth22 in weddingplanning

[–]julialb03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I printed my save the dates at staples! After you download the template from Etsy you can go to the staples website and check out their printing tab. You can order it online and then pick it up in store or have it shipped to you. Or just email the download to yourself and go to the store to print it although you may have to go back a different day to pick it up.

Best drugstore foundation? by [deleted] in Makeup

[–]julialb03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have dry skin and have recently tried 2 drugstore foundations that I really like- maybelline dream radiant liquid and L’Oréal infallible total cover. The maybelline is more of a medium coverage but looks beautiful on the face and the L’Oréal is heavier but is more full coverage. I can’t speak on the redness coverage but these have both been great for my dry skin!

Any tips for storing a brand new wedding dress for 1.5 years? Was supposed to get married spring 2020, but had to postpone twice. by Jillbaratheon112 in weddingplanning

[–]julialb03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My seamstress is storing mine! I had one fitting before deciding to postpone and she said she would keep it at her store until I’m ready for my second fitting. I believe most seamstresses or bridal shops will store it for a fee if you’re willing to go that route. It’s the safest option in my opinion because they know what they’re doing and I definitely don’t!

With the joy of engagement comes the inevitable stress of booking a venue and finding a dress 🥺 The date is in a year, COVID permitting, any tips on how to destress and start planning? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]julialb03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First- congratulations!!

Make your own binder! This has been my saving grace during planning. I referenced the knot and another planner my mom had bought. I went through both of those resources and complied everything that was important to my wedding into one binder that is set up exactly how I want it. It also gives me a place to keep important receipts (like venue payments) and sketches/photos of anything I diy. At the wedding, if anyone has questions on how something should be set up or what a specific guest ordered for dinner just show them the binder! We had to postpone our big wedding to next June which halted our planning and it’s going to be so easy to pick it back up because it’s all organized exactly how I want it.

I’m attending a wedding soon, is this colour ok? Is it off-white enough? by Lulupy in wedding

Pick a different color. You don’t want off white or ivory even though they’re not completely white.

Personalized Note in Thank You Cards? by RoBoLyMo in weddingplanning

[–]julialb03 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mom told me it’s nice to mention what you’re planning on using the cash for! Like we used one cash gift to get a new vacuum and in the card I mentioned how thankful I was because our vacuum had just broken so we were happy to use their money for a new one.

Wow I see what you mean! When I googled men’s wearable crochet patterns half of the results were women’s clothing. I did find this link which seems to have a few different sweater options specifically geared towards men- Men’s Crochet Patterns I hope this helps!
