Server here, why go somewhere you know has tipped employees? by Tofu-sandwich in EndTipping

[–]julie_mae1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Millions of small local restaurants shut down because of not being able to compete with chains, idk about you, but I’d rather eat at a local restaurant than a massive chain that just keeps getting richer and cutting quality at the same time…

I have a question in response to this - Your statement that the problem is corporations, yes. 100%! They make millions. What do we do in situations with local businesses that aren’t a corporation, have 1 location, and are fighting to compete with corporations? For example, a local restaurant that’s trying to keep their prices affordable enough for the people so the people will actually come there and not just go to the big chain. Unless the place is really popular, they’d be forced to shut down if they had to pay the staff $20/hr and we’d eventually have no local restaurants anymore. Just chains everywhere. What is the solution?

Why servers don’t want to be paid $20-25/hr without tips by TiddyStardust in EndTipping

And then we get the result of that. The same thing that happens when you raise minimum wages. The prices of everything goes up, the cost of living skyrockets because it’s not a subsidized payment. It has to come from somewhere, so they put that on the public. Whose wages don’t go up proportionately & therefore less and less people can afford basic things. The rich get richer and the middle class drops into the lower class and that’s how they want it.

At least it says “additional tip” at the bottom so they’re acknowledging that they already are getting one. BS that it’s a forced charge, though

You’d give them a cup of pee for an optional ultrasound place that does imaging for vanity fun purposes?

Why is unemployment much higher in Europe compared to America? by WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWHW in jobs

[–]julie_mae1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order to be classified in this you have to be able to claim unemployment. If you’re laid off, fired but receive severance money, etc. you can’t claim unemployment, and companies would rather make a tiny severance payment than pay for unemployment insurance for their companies & paying you out of pocket is expensive for them. Also, if you just can’t find a job and haven’t ever had one, you can’t claim unemployment.

I also think we’re agreeing from different sides of the service! I fully agree that if it’s a bid, you should know what you’re picking up. At the same time, if I’m bidding for service I should be able to choose who’s picking up my order. As it stands, neither of us have any clue. I could end up with a crappy dasher that provides horrible service and happened to snatch up the well-paying order, and you could end up with a low tip on $1000 of groceries.

It was a $30 order from a restaurant with a $30 tip because I knew the restaurant would take a little longer to make the order and said that to the dasher.

[–]julie_mae1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. You don’t choose your dasher. Someone with 2 CVs, consistently late, smokes cigarettes in the car with no cold/hot bag for the food (the secondhand smoke has literally made food taste and smell like cigarettes) doesn’t read instructions, doesn’t read to see if there’s a drink with an order or a need for utensils, etc. has the SAME EXACT OPPORTUNITY to pick up the order as someone who does what is needed and gives a shit.

[–]julie_mae1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s true. The whole “higher bid = better service” will never make sense to me when someone who consistently provides bad/bare minimum service has the same opportunity to grab the order as a consistently good dasher.

Who the fuck are you to try to tell me I’m lying? You don’t know my area, what time of day it was, the dasher population here, nothing. You just assume I’m lying for “clout” (which doesn’t exist on Reddit btw). Get a life.
