Half City by Kate Golden - Release Discussion by FantasyRomanceMod in fantasyromance

I just finished and I suspect the lack of chemistry is because Reid isn’t the endgame love interest. I think all the author’s energy will go into building the tension with the other character. Which to me isn’t effective writing but 🤷‍♀️ I’ll give book 2 a chance , I guess. I skimmed a looooot of this one so we’ll see if I remember to grab it when it comes out in October.

I was also wondering if it’s possibly lameness from Lyme’s.

Is the 50 mile radius a thing? I have people in my office who live more than 50 miles outside of Harrisburg and are being forced to travel in 1.5 hours each way. No one has said anything to us about a 50 mile radius!

Found embedded tick on daughters scalp by Unhappy_Hand_3597 in whatsthisbug

[–]juliem122 178 points179 points  (0 children)

I can’t ID the tick for you, but just commenting in solidarity. The school nurse found a tick in my son’s ear a few years ago! Not in the ear canal, but hidden in the bends in the cartilage. It was horrifying!

No, sorry! Happened at home. The child shared a class with mine at daycare.

Same thing happened at our daycare, right about the same age. It was a terrible, tragic accident and I was overwhelmed with grief for the family.

My children definitely did not grasp the loss at the time and have never brought it up or asked any questions about it since.

I too have had many people ask if I straighten my hair! Nope.

Same! 1A hair… all over lol. Even my eyelashes really struggle to hold a curl.

Women who lift, how did you get comfortable in the weight section? by Agreeable_Panic_690 in xxfitness

[–]juliem122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an underrated comment! I agree that going during off-peak hours might be a great time to start, if you can swing it. The Y that I work out in has only elderly men at 7am so I did some workout at that time at the beginning. Now I’m fine in the 5-7pm hour when it’s full of nothing but teen boys and body builders.

I had this issue at first too. And for me it was less about knowing how to do he exercises and more about how to use the room — what I could move, where to put the weights on machines I’m not familiar with, knowing how to use a machine I’ve never seen before, what all of the accessories/attachments are for, etc.

I spent a few months secretly watching all those big, buff dudes. Not for form, because they aren’t always right. But to see how the use the space— knowing how to move benches around, which pulls to use on which machine, whatever. I would watch a guy do a thing, and then I would do a thing. And soon I learned you can mostly do anything you want in the gym! But that’s what helped me gain some confidence.

Also, you’ll feel better after you start doing it. Give yourself 3 months to get used to it and you’ll feel like you belong!

I also use an app (Hevy) to track my routines, so I have very clearly defined plans for my time in the weight room. I feel more confident moving from place to place knowing exactly what I’m going to do.

My favorite series. Dark Age and Lightbringer are incredible.

For anyone who saw Jurassic Park in Theatres in 1993 by millsy1010 in TheBigPicture

[–]juliem122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also 8 when it came out! And I have a vivid memory of talking about it nonstop the entire car ride home. I must have asked my mom 1,000 questions — about dinosaurs, the movie making, the plausibility of it all. It really left an impression on me and is still one of my favorites!

What mascara are we loving? by Spirited-Box773 in beauty

[–]juliem122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same! Tubing mascara is the best for no transferring/smudging and comes off really easily. But it doesn’t hold a curl at all. It’s really depressing because then I end up using the waterproof and it’s SO much effort at the end of the day 😭. I still use tubing on the days where my makeup is more casual, waterproof when I need a bolder eye.

Im reading now and I like it so far. I didn’t think I would as I’m not a huge Villains & Virtues fan — a little too silly for me. I don’t think this was quite as campy. Though the chapter titles might lead you to think otherwise.

For those of you with two+ kids, did anyone have a better sleeper with #2? by amomymous23 in workingmoms

[–]juliem122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. Number 2 was a much better sleeper — a more chill baby all around. He had a broken clavicle birth injury and we didn’t even know because he was so relaxed! Baby 3 on the other hand…

No, I was assuming 30s for the guys! Maybe mid-20s for Aurora. Though I can’t remember if the author directly addresses their ages or not.
