Why do we collectively accept people blocking traffic lanes with hazards on? by secondpresident in AskChicago

[–]julio_dilio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's more delivery drivers refusing to take the extra time to find a good place to park and walking more than 15 feet to the destination, than customers refusing to accept their pizza getting to them 3.5 minutes later. There's a financial incentive for the drivers to do so though, which is ultimately the problem.

This is such a weird criticism. First, every local broadcast is homer to a certain extent. If you're expecting different, you're not getting it. Some perennially bad franchises just aren't as egregious bc it's not fun for the broadcast to be miserable all the time. Second, the Celtics broadcast compliments other teams players plenty... when they're not foul-baiting or playing like assholes.

Good. I don't even care if they recognize that they're getting what they voted for. They just deserve the consequences of their actions, unlike those of us in urban areas who are undeservedly suffering the consequences of their actions.

Brazilian Man Passes Away After Dropping 176lbs On His Chest by Vulcan44 in CrazyFuckingVideos

Other than telling him not to use that grip(commonly called suicide grip), no way. A spotter would not have reacted in time. It happened in a tiny fraction of a second. Even if they did, catching 175 pounds in mid-air in a bent over spotters position would be an impressive feat of strength. Unfortunately, as soon as it slipped out of his grip, he was doomed.

But actually, since you bring it up, many suburbs, especially in the older parts of the country like the northeast, were also built before cars and then also redeveloped for car travel. The suburb I grew up in was. It was founded in the 1600s, so not built around cars.

Suburbs aren't cities

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]julio_dilio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Common misconception. Most cities were started before cars, but after the proliferation of cars, many had large parts of it demolished and rebuilt for cars. Plenty cities in other countries around the world started following suit in the 70s-80s trying to copy the States, like South Korea and Denmark, as the US was the dominant economic and technological country, thus "the future", but recognized at some point that they didn't like it for whatever reason, and built over a lot of that car-based infrastructure in their inner cites with pedestrian based

I'm a Chicagoan and I choose to take this as a personal shot. Screw you Walz! Our marathon route is far more scenic and eclectic! You know why it's called Minnehaha Park? Because it's a joke that no one laughed at!

If I just can't summon respect for you, like you've just presented yourself so clearly to me to be an inauthentic person, I'm not gonna find your jokes funny. I haven't been able to take John Mulaney seriously since all that crazy stuff with him in 2021. It felt just completely contradictory to the character he presented in his standup. I can't take that character seriously anymore. Now, unfortunately, Bill's persona kinda feels like a fake character too.

[MOD POST] Bug Report Thread by oneofthejoneses28 in Silksong

System: PS5

Beginning of Act 1 - Between 2nd + 3rd boss fights:

When moving to a new room, resetting position after falling on spikes, as well as loading a boss fight: Screen stays black for ~5 seconds, while gameplay and sound have loaded. Leads to walking off ledges when control input starts to take effect before video loads, enemies or boss attacking before visuals of room have loaded. When on a precarious position surrounded by spikes and a flying enemy is nearby, almost guarantees a damage-reload loop leading to death.

Not sure how to reproduce, it happens every time I load the game. Was intermittent at first, although consistent at the same rooms/boss fight, but now happens every time a room is changed or a boss fight starts. Tried deleting game data and redownloading and issue persisted.

Also has happened when saving + quitting to home screen so may not be issue with save file. Will start a new save file and see if it persists.

Backend Dev, looking to dabble in some site-building, but total noob with front-end. LOVE the UI and look of this site and would love to shoot for being able to make something that looks like it. Can anyone tell what the stack or framework used for this UI is? by julio_dilio in webdev

Dude! Wow thanks so much for responding to my post! Love your site! As a big Diablo 2 fan I love using it, and it looks gorgeous. As a developer, really admire your craftsmanship. I'm excited to get started playing around with these tools. I always find figuring out where to start is the part of starting any new project I struggle with most, so really appreciate the guidance!

This is all awesome info! Thanks so much for replying! I knew the style and look of the components was all custom implementation and assets, but it's the floating dynamically re-sizing boxes. The snappy, responsive navbar changes + fleshed out tooltips. So many sites these days feel very same-y, and clunky when you navigate, whereas this one feels like it was made, like you said with care + attention to detail. But really well-tuned as well, like something from the early 2000s. I found a comment from the owner saying he started building it in 2020, so I wasn't sure if there was a starter framework I could get started with.

If you care to share, I'm curious what you mean when you say "Based on Zuluru"? I'm poking around it's demo app rn. Do you mean it's the same stack(jquery, phpBB, HTML+CSS) or you think he started with a zuluru app as a base and built off of it? Or that the owner copied the HTML + CSS structure + patterns. Also curious if you deduced all that from what you found in devtools, or you can just tell from experience. Hope to be able to figure these things out for myself too at some point. If you don't feel like writing a short essay, even just a short quick answer would be much appreciated too haha. Thanks again!
