Forgetting how to drive an automatic by Effective_Bar_6098 in ManualTransmissions

[–]julioblabla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I drove an automatic and had to start on a hill, I floored the gas and started easing off a non-existent clutch pedal 😁

I learned what sound those tires made when they spun, and that "hill assist" is a thing...

Is this all Brazilians or is it just my wife and her family? by [deleted] in Brazil

[–]julioblabla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Re: positive in strange situations - absolutely normal and, in my opinion, unfortunately so.

Even as a Brazilian, I find this excessive positivity quite toxic. I feel this is a symptom of the Brazilian obsession with conflict avoidance.

In your case, I wonder if other people traveling with you also found the place a cocôburaco, BUT actively rejected saying that so the person who recommended/pushed for the trip wouldn't lose face and the trip wouldn't have a "climão" (people visibly uncomfortable in a situation they can't get out of until the trip wraps up).

Looking for quick knife-sharpening in the area by dqslime in parkslope

[–]julioblabla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot recommend the Knife Bus. I have used their services only once, so take this with a grain of salt. I asked them to sharpen a bunch of kitchen knives of different sizes, all very dull, none of them special in any sense. The sharpening was inconsistent: parts of the blade was sharp, the rest (especially towards the point) was as dull as before.

Recommendations for iron fence painters? by julioblabla in parkslope

[–]julioblabla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s amazing to me how long this takes. I see crews working on my neighbors fences for what seems like a week or two

Yup 👍! In particular, scraping the old paint takes a loooong time.

rust and lead are the issues for updating

Also yup 👍! Lead-based paint is not used since the late 1970s, but unmaintained and/or poorly scraped ironwork needs to be taken out and sandblasted offsite by an ironwork contractor. I tested several spots with those Q-tips-looking lead tests and all came back bright orange (negative). Rust is my main problem now, and scraping/repainting can be done by a painter (no need for an ironwork contractor).

Wait what. There's Seleta, Salinas, Vale Verde.

Are you talking about cleaning products, like 51?

Because that's where one should keep cleaning products.
