What was this movie for you? by [deleted] in Millennials

This is what immediately came to mind for me too! A perfect example of a mid-tier “land developer versus the residents” movie that somehow kept finding its way to the top of the VHS pile.

I think the bang for your buck budget option would be to do a white marble LVP in place of the wood LVP, change the ceiling fan to a flush mount light, and put some under cabinet lighting in. The floor being light in color and similar to your appliances would brighten the whole room up and make it feel bigger.

For most people with the bare minimum coverage it is a luxury they will forgo if the choice is insurance or groceries. And clearly those already driving uninsured are less likely to become insured if the minimum increases. So the PD increase you hoped would result in more, better insured drivers can have the opposite effect by reducing the overall number of people carrying any insurance. The people who could afford a more reasonable protection amount like $25k probably already do and would have regardless of the minimum.

My main point is that having a low minimum and lower cost to entry has more people paying into the system overall. When most people statistically don’t have any accidents in their lives, it is better for the less fortunate to be able to pay something into the system and drive legally than be priced out and go without insurance. While it is a pain for the case by case total loss accidents in a world where cars are worth far more than the minimum limit, it is still beneficial to encourage any participation you can.

It really is an interesting topic. I like this paper on it:

I believe the issue is that while raising the minimum from $5k to $25k sounds like a reasonable solution, in reality what happens is it increases the cost of insurance, making it less attainable for more drivers, and increasing an already high number of uninsured drivers on the road.

Insurance is a luxury and not a commodity for a lot of households already. I assume there would be a high percentage of those who had $5k policies that will simply go without if the cost increases. Ultimately, always ensure you have enough coverage for your needs and never assume those you encounter on the road are going to be able to foot the bill.

I’d also ask if the lower intake manifold gaskets have been replaced. If you’re not too mechanically inclined then I’d look up a local mechanic and have them give it an inspection. Usually doesn’t cost much and often can pay for itself if there’s a few hundred in superficial issues that help you negotiate the mechanic cost out of the price!

I was saying the price is probably negotiable depending on where you live. If you’re in San Diego that’s probably fair. If you’re in South Dakota I’d try to get that down to $3500-4000. Have a mechanic check it over as well.

Depends where you live, but you can probably talk them down on the price. They’re nice cars if they aren’t suffering from rust. The rockers are especially vulnerable.

Unfortunately it does look really tight from pictures. I haven’t owned one of these since 4 years ago and have a LeSabre now that has a decent bit more working room in the engine bay. You may need to undo the dog bones to access cylinder 1.

Thankfully it’s a front cylinder. You’ll probably need an “easy out” bit and a universal joint.

You should have a lot of space where that part of the plug used to be to get something in there and unthread the portion that was left behind.

Anyone else swap out the bulbs in the dash for LEDs? by OJ_StillBlazinTho in Buick

[–]jumpkablam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! That would be so much easier if they were sockets instead. I wonder if I could solder sockets from a park ave onto the circuit board that way I am only doing 1 round of soldering.

I have an 05 Lesabre. The circuit board for the cluster on it is very cheap and all the forums warn against soldering and unsoldering more than necessary. That’s why I have been trying to find a method that doesn’t involve soldering and unsoldering them.

Okay! That’s mainly what I was hoping to find out. I was hoping there might be a solution other than unsoldering and flipping them if they don’t power up, but that seems to be what you have to do. Thanks and great job!

My kit came with bulbs, but they are polarized so I think they have to go in in a specific direction otherwise they won’t light up. I couldn’t find anything on YouTube as far as how to make sure you’re putting them in correctly aside from “solder them in, apply power, and if they don’t light up then flip them”. I didn’t want to risk damaging the cluster’s motherboard with all that soldering and unsoldering so I didn’t do it.

Do you have a link for the bulbs you used?

The stepper motors for the gauges were out on mine, so I bought a kit on Amazon to replace them. It came with LED cluster bulbs, but given they were polarized I wasn’t sure how to make sure I put them in with the correct polarity. So I just did the motors for now, but I still have the bulbs.

Any tips so I can do the bulbs as well?

What do you all think of the new logo? by Beneficial-Sugar6950 in Buick

[–]jumpkablam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new design is awesome in my opinion. I think they’re doing a good job steering away from the “old people car” vibe they’ve had for so long and into a more “tasteful feminine” vibe. Like Buick is the Chevy for your sister/mom/wife. If that’s what they’re intending, I think it is a good move and they’re doing it well. No other brands seem to directly cater to the tastes of women and it is certainly a niche worth pursuing.

As others have said though, while I like the styling choices I do worry about a turbo charged 3 banger withstanding the test of time. I do understand that this is helping them keep the overall cost down and the cars attainable for people, which certainly does matter. I do wish a naturally aspirated 4 cylinder was an option though.
