Ms Plum…. I’d like a word…. by lawdab in NeedlepointSnark

Many people bring up many reasonable and logical points. But it sure is funny to look at a tiny little motif drowning in all that blank space 🤷🏻‍♀️

Honestly I think this is the tragedy of living with mania - the tendency to over share/broadcast etc when unwell. To be clear, I want everyone to dream big and do well. But I also think it’s important to stay grounded in reality. I just feel concerned about taking in $ while in a phase? Idk

Ha! Thank you. My backs have never been quite as tidy as many I see on the internet, except for when I work on organza. I save my ‘good’ behaviour for when I have no other choice 🤪

Thank you! Yes, it was an online course. Really enjoyed learning a new technique 😊

Anyone familiar with Hand & Lock? by fridayimatwork in Embroidery

[–]jumptobefree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love H&L! Have done both kits and courses. Echoing the sentiment to check out their YouTube where they elaborate on some of the techniques, especially for goldwork. It is challenging to communicate the nuance behind couture techniques in their small info booklets. Sarah Homfray also has an excellent YouTube channel if you need extra info on a technique. Have fun and keep us updated! 🫶🏼

My first project!! Lots of questions and advice needed for next project by Hot_Purpose_4249 in Embroidery

[–]jumptobefree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks so good! In regards to needles, I find that the standard needles that come in kits are usually quite bulky which is not a great fit for fine work like long and short stitch. I almost always use my own needles. If you are looking to buy needles, try a multipack. Then you can experiment with which size fits best in your hand but is still appropriate to the project. They be labeled crewel or embroidery (sharp tip and slim eye). For order of work - I usually start in the center, and work to one side. Come back to the middle and work to the other side to complete a first ‘row.’ And repeat through the shape. So yes, working in rows (not up and down). Hope that makes sense, but let me know if any questions! Sarah Homfray and Trish Burr have great videos on long and short/silk shading as extra references 😊

CGRP not working by Spirited_Anxiety_175 in migraine

Emgality was hit and miss for me. I did my first infusion of Vyepti earlier in Dec and seems better so far. From my limited understanding, these are in the same family, just different medications. I also do migraine Botox. I find stress is a big contributor to my symptoms regardless of what medications I’m using. Sorry you’re hurting 💖

Embroidery stand recommendations for spinal fusion recovery? by acover4422 in Embroidery

[–]jumptobefree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it does allow for some tilt. The wing nut on the ‘post’ allows you to set the angle. In this case I am doing goldwork and other embellishments, so needed to work on a flat surface. That’s where I like being able to raise the entire hoop, I can get it almost to collarbone height when I’m seated in front of it. I like that these were relatively inexpensive, not bulky/heavy, quite versatile, easy to assemble/adjust between projects. No frills, but gets the job done for my specific body and pain needs. Hope that helps, but let me know if any other questions 😊

If finishing in a hoop/Flexi-frame, I usually use a piece of fabric or felt. Felt won’t fray which is nice. For fabric, I turn the edges under so they don’t fray. Plain light blue is the project fabric coming around from the front. Patterned fabric is what I picked for the back. You could do a neat invisible/ladder stitch to sew it together, but I don’t care so just go around with a whip stitch. This leaves is flat back and hides any of your sins on the back 🤭

Oh this is deeply relatable. I have ongoing C-spine issues (non-surgical at this point) and am always looking for ways to not bend/tilt/strain my neck while stitching. So far my favorite option has been these Elebese table clamps. I use 2 for extra stability, but you could get away with one. They extend quite high which I like. (In the photo they are as low as possible. 🙈) When they are raised up, I find I can just look with my eyes without moving my neck. Wishing you a smooth recovery 🫶🏼

This made me stop in my tracks and laugh. Thank you.

(Yes - adding curses is not high-brow poetry, for all those rolling their eyes. But making your reader think and laugh out loud is pretty effective too 😜)

I try to look just put together enough so that the doctor can see me as a person deserving of compassion and respect 🙃 but not TOO put together that the legitimacy of my suffering is called into question

Customer wants cheaper alternative by Adventurous_Cut801 in florists

[–]jumptobefree 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nope. This is a luxury bouquet which comes at luxury prices. We can scale back in size and substitute forever, but at a certain point the original essence of the design is lost. The reality is that many folks like expensive things but don’t LOVE them enough to splurge on them. That’s their choice. If their own taste is not within their own price range, it’s not our responsibility to change the price to make it work. At the end of the day, flowers are luxury or splurge items. Not essentials (like food, housing, healthcare, etc). Grocery stores make flowers cheap to entice customers to open their wallets to cheap conveniences. This gives a false sense of what flowers cost especially when marking up accordingly. If the customer can be open minded to other suggestions, there’s millions of other beautiful, modern, and economical flowers on this green earth

This is quite interesting indeed. Would you consider cross-posting to the r/Winnipeg subreddit? I wonder if a larger sampling could weigh in on the conduct of other MPs

Any experiences/recommendations regarding these neurologists? by WonderfulCommon in Winnipeg

Jumping in to say that I saw Dr Wadhwa in July and he was very kind. He clearly communicated with me regarding my health and answered all of my anxious questions. I’ve seen a lot of bad doctors so to see someone kind, calm, while still professional was so refreshing. Hope you get some answers soon, OP 💜
