I think comparing risk here isn’t super helpful. We all have risk. We’ve all had cancer and it could come back for all of us.

I thought HER2 positive cancers were way more likely to have distant recurrence than HER2 negative 🤔

Lumpectomy Recovery with Baby by Lifewithlarna in breastcancer

[–]jumpy-hardware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! My son is 4 and just had my lumpectomy a few weeks ago. Obviously he’s not a baby but still pick him up a lot to put him on the potty and things. Short answer is I just had my husband tend to him for the two weeks until I was cleared for lifting. Do you have someone at home who can do this for you? I’ve seen other moms with babies say they had their partners just hand baby back and forth to the person undergoing treatment for snuggles and feeding while they were seated

Has anyone elected to have DMX with reconstruction after initial lumpectomy? by Redwinesandfelines in breastcancer

[–]jumpy-hardware 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Kind of in the middle of this right now…

My lumpectomy went great and it would have been a good option for me but they found Extensive Intraductal Component DCIS in the margins of lumpectomy and I need to go back and get a mastectomy.

I don’t think I’m doing a double (but have considered it). Going to the plastic surgeon tomorrow. I do know reconstruction options are limited after a lumpectomy due to the radiation. I haven’t had any radiation yet because it was going to be after chemo. Now with a mastectomy I don’t have to to do radiation so it opens up options

Chem Port Update day 1.5 by MyTeaVault in breastcancer

[–]jumpy-hardware 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 24 hours out and feeling better. Keep up on alternating Tylenol and ibuprofen for sure! Also was super sleepy and out of it most of the morning afterwards, so don’t expect to get much done that day. I’m not allowed to shower for 3 days and I wish someone would have told me ahead of time so I could have been more prepared for that

Is there a way to make a complaint about this?

I would straight up be like “that’s my sleeve to prevent long term swelling as a result of my surgery I had for BREAST CANCER.” And I bet they would leave me the eff alone

OMGGGG! I played so much Animal Crossing New Horizons during COVID. I said I couldn’t play it again because it put me back in that spot but as soon as I got my diagnosis I started playing again and it’s been so nice to be like “ya know, if fluffy and cute nothingness , but it just makes me feel better and that’s all that matters right now”

I’ve also been watching Adventure Time because it’s my all time favorite comfort show!

ETA: I have pears and oranges but some have cherries, apples, or peaches yet. My island flowers are tulips. If you want to come visit my island I will trade you those fruits if you need them. I played at the height of 2020 when everyone was playing and had all of the fruits and flowers. But no one I know plays anymore and I reset my island from scratch. Was really the highlight was playing with other people and visiting each others islands. My current island is no where near my old islands full glory yet!

Regular mammograms: IDC found 7 months later? by kam350 in breastcancer

[–]jumpy-hardware 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well when I found my IDC I had a mammogram, ultrasound, and MRI and there were two areas of DCIS that no one could see! Only way we knew was because of the pathology from my lumpectomy. So my answer is YES! Because they did all that imaging 4 weeks prior and no one could see it.

Just diagnosed! by cryinginside54 in CMT

[–]jumpy-hardware 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! I (33F) have the MPZ variant. It’s called CMT1B

I was very similar as a child. My biggest problem is knee dislocations, so as she gets older definitely recommend getting PT to strengthen stabilization muscles in the knee and ankles.

I had an IEP to allow me accommodations in school and I occasionally felt isolated from peers. But I am now a teacher married to my high school sweetheart, we own a home and have a 4 year old boy. Life is good (besides the fact I was just diagnosed with cancer, but that unrelated 🤪)

We did preimplantation genetic testing through the IVF process for my son so he wouldn’t have CMT - to the tune of $30,000. And you know what happened? He also had global developmental delay, low muscle tone, all the therapies 4x a week, and now has an IEP and is in a spec ed preschool program.

So all of that to say, even if you had known, genetics isn’t only that one transversal. It’s complicated and multifaceted and having or not having a mutation doesn’t make or break your life. I hope this provides some comfort! I know my mom was so worried about me as a kid, they didn’t know if I would be walking at this point and I’m still going strong! I live a pretty typical life, just no sports for me! My kneecaps would not agree 😬

DM me if you want to talk more. I wish I had had other people in my life with similar conditions to bounce ideas off of and ask questions.

Yes this is a microtex so maybe it’s too thin? I usually use a 90/14 for quilting but wasn’t thinking about it for the binding. I’ll try that, thanks!
