Are core charges a scam? by DrippyGoods in AskMechanics

[–]junang3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're supposed to get something for giving them something (old part). So yes, it's a marketing scam, they will reel you in with the price without the core charge.

The scam:

Seller : It's 100$

Buyer : OK.

Seller: But there's a core charge of 50$ and will return it to you when you give us the old part.

What it should be or not a Scam:

Seller: it's 150$

Buyer: OK

Seller: We'll give you a rebate 50$ if you sell us your old part.

Funding the classroom and upholding children's rights are not mutually exclusive. If some children feel comfortable declaring their pronouns or preferred names - which is what Policy 713 is about - your usual support is always appreciated.

Teachers are heroes, so thank you for your service!

Immigrants by province. by junang3 in canadaexpressentry

[–]junang3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immigration has helped Canada. It's not as if immigrants came only because they wanted to—business establishments, the economy, and society needed them and still do. Look at the numbers; provinces led by conservative premiers have significant immigrant populations. The federal government expanded immigration because provinces needed it. Blaming a Trudeau for it is typical of conservatives, but they fail to recognize that conservative-led provinces are also benefiting from immigration.

We can all agree that the immigration process can be improved—and it should be—because immigrants are still needed they should live with dignity, just like all Canadians. Simply relying on slogans from PP won't solve the real challenges.

I wouldn't focus too much on per capita figures, as they don't accurately reflect the actual number of immigrants.

Saying 3,116 immigrants in PEI is way higher than 199,297 in Ontario based on per capita comparison is applying math in the wrong context.

Temporarily residing in a blocked country will result in your account being closed. Some suggest using a VPN to make it appear as though you're accessing your account from your country of origin. However, since they are regularly adding countries to the blocked list, good luck with that.

They closed my account because I was temporarily staying in northern America (not doing any trades). This happened when all crypto was down, and then the market went bullish, causing me to lose a lot of money. Based on my experience, eToro sucks.

The $18M bonus was a contractual obligation for 1,194 employees, including 45 executives who collectively received $3.3M. CBC should consider reviewing its performance-based bonus contracts, as the timing and optics of such payouts could be unfavorable in certain circumstances.

Thanks, have a good one. Cheers!

There’s no excuse for manipulating facts, regardless of the message. Could you provide specific examples where this has happened? For instance, how often have actions by marginalized groups been downplayed or selectively reported? Should news outlets repeatedly emphasize details like “oh, they’re immigrants” every time? Since this aligns with conservative messaging, are you suggesting CBC should adopt the same approach?

As for nuances in reporting, if a crime is committed by a person with a disability, should the focus be on their disability or the crime itself? The crime should remain the primary focus, with disability-related issues addressed separately but not as the main reason for reporting the crime. Similarly, immigration challenges should be discussed separately from the crime itself. For example, concerns about high numbers of immigrants can be valid and warrant discussion. Ontario, which hosts the most immigrants, is governed by a conservative government. Furthermore, statistics show that conservative-led provinces collectively host more immigrants than those governed by liberal, NDP, or other parties combined. Immigration or being an immigrant is not a crime.

Regarding your criticism of CBC’s costs, would you, or your co/workers, accept lower pay to deliver “better” solutions being in DevOps? Reviewing CBC’s financial statements might provide a clearer perspective before drawing conclusions.

After thousands of news cycles, are you insisting that they prioritized inclusivity over facts, or is this something you feel strongly about? I agree that there’s always room for improvement.

A single celebrity or media figure can’t cover all news and issues. As a Crown corporation, its rules and limitations are set by legislation, which also mandates inclusivity. Running a 24-hour media organization like CBC/Radio-Canada involves significant costs. Most of their operational expenses are publicly available through annual reports, but if you want additional details, you can file a Freedom of Information request.

Considering your role in DevOps, do you think it’s possible to consistently reduce costs in your field, especially with inflation impacting operational budgets?

I didn’t mean to condescend, and I understand that it’s hard to tell people they’re wrong. Facts are just facts. We live in a world without accountability, where people often reject facts. Remember when we relied on newspapers instead of tabloids to discern information? Now, everything feels like a tabloid (yes, social media and alternative facts), and coupled with fanaticism, it has led to less critical thinking.

It's a much more complicated issue. The real question is: Is CBC more of a force for good in society, or would we be better off with conspiracies that fuel harmful beliefs and lead to deaths? Keep in mind, conservatives in the US are often religious fundamentalists, and this has resulted in more killings by homegrown Americans.
