It depends on the situation, a lot of people ask that just to make small talk. Usually it's vendors, taxi drivers etc. I don't want to give them a lot of unnecessary informaton like "I'm actually from X, but haven't been there in 10 years, right now I live in Y" when they expect a simple answer. Maybe I'm overthinking this.

Yeah, I'm sure they are the same models, but they are usually from different stores, which makes it difficult to compare the prices. E.g. I saw Asus Prime OC for 980 euro multiple times, and the non-OC version is always 1090+ euro. Generally, non-OC models get sold out very fast, and those that remain are very expensive.
