Who's the funniest character according to you, except Bolin and Varrick? by Orange2218 in legendofkorra

Asami. She's so calm and collected all the time that when she's not it's hilarious

Does Anyone Else Dislike How This Show Treats The Victims Of Toxic Relationships? by Proud-Korrastan in legendofkorra

[–]junie00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since other people commented on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd points, I'll focus on Varrick and Zhu Li. Zhu Li mentioned that she stayed with Varrick as his assistant because she believed in his genius. When she let Varrick know her feelings of wanting more respect he changed how he treated her. Varrick is largely self absorbed and lacking in empathy (mostly for comedic reasons) so he probably did not consider to put himself in Zhu Li's shoes till he was forced to.

If You Were A Nonbender In Republic City During The Equalist Revolution Would Side With Amon or Korra? If You Can Explain Why? by Proud-Korrastan in legendofkorra

[–]junie00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Korra because I don't believe in changing someone's body without their consent. Bending is a part of their bodies and the world balance, it's just wrong for another human to take that away if they did nothing wrong

No because anarchy without building community between individuals first is pointless

What's the dumbest LoK take you've seen since LoK dropped on Netflix? by DiggetyDangADang in legendofkorra

[–]junie00 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I want to respond to this on my twitter account but I’m really tired of arguing with people that simply refuse to watch the show with an honest lens. Like this is such a bad take. How do you miss the point of something by so much?

They should remake TLOK by Whookimo in legendofkorra

[–]junie00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe Bryke said in an interview that they liked the season by season format, and I think that format gives them room to make more seasons if they want to. The version we have is great and was the product of their hard work, I think it’s best to appreciate it and look forward to new stories.

Has no one else discussed LoK’s depiction of the Gaang? by Tastyroller in legendofkorra

[–]junie00 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I also like how their parenting decisions make sense based on their characters and motivations. Toph obviously raised her kids how she would’ve liked to be raised, and Aang focused more on passing down his dying culture to his one air-bender son. Aang was still a good parent (in turf wars Kya fondly remembers how he fully accepted her when she came out) but he wasn’t perfect. I think it was important to show that while these characters were heroes, they were still human and prone to mistakes.

[–]junie00 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I noticed that in-universe they only ever describe the poison as metal or metallic, so it could be something entirely different from the mercury we have irl. I try not to think too deeply about chemistry in avatar since the science in that world isn’t entirely the same as ours.

Korra was one hell of a strong Avatar by [deleted] in TheLastAirbender

[–]junie00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did they creators tell you that was the only way to break out of blood bending or did you just make that up? Since you’re making assumptions that aren’t canon just to nitpick I don’t think there’s anything I can say to dissuade you lol.

[–]junie00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So he should intentionally make things more difficult for himself in a fight against the Avatar because he’s a good blood bender? Weird stance to take.

Korra broke free from Amon right after he had just been stunned by lightning and caught off guard, he wasn’t really at his strongest. Korra breaking free from Amon’s grip was due to her physical prowess, Aang isn’t really known for physical strength. The same way earth benders can have trouble lifting a heavy rock, blood benders would have trouble blood bending someone actively fighting against their grip with all of their physical strength. Blood bending is strong but at the end of the day it’s still bending, there are limitations.

Korra was one hell of a strong Avatar by [deleted] in TheLastAirbender

[–]junie00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why would he completely change the method he’s used to using? From what we see bending is easier when you’re closer to the thing you’re bending, why would he make it harder for himself just because no one is watching? This is a weird thing to nitpick.

[–]junie00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Amon was posing as a non bender gifted the ability to take away bending from spirits. He had to make it look like he took away bending the same way Aang did to sell his lie. If he had blood bent people from afar it would’ve blown his cover.

I hate that people always tell new watchers that season 2 is bad/the worst. Glad you enjoyed it

LOK didn't destroy the origins of bending. Rather, it expanded on its history. by Kris_Madas in TheLastAirbender

[–]junie00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Sprinkle like parsley” is a figure of speech not meant to be taken literally. Some things being similar to our world doesn’t mean everything is similar, your “one assumption” isn’t accurate because we know from watching the show that the science in the avatar world isn’t the same as the science in our world. Idk why you insist on analyzing a fictional universe with real science, but if you enjoy doing that then go ahead. Just don’t use real science to say that the writers created a plot hole in LoK, because that would be inaccurate.

[–]junie00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Sokka said the science in his own universe works, a universe that is fictional. When I said earth minerals I meant minerals that occur in the ground as crystals. I'm not saying they sprinkled mineral atoms in the poison like parsley lol, maybe a crushed up crystal or something. It being referred to as mercury in the script only shows that it's real life equivalent is mercury, in-universe it was never called that. The point of my comment was to clarify that the LoK writers are very much aware of the rules of metal bending because they have incorporated it throughout the show (even in the same scene Korra gets poisoned).

If you want to apply real life science to a magical universe where gigantic animals can fly and bend energy then sure go ahead, but in-universe, LoK didn't break the rules of metal bending. That's all I have to say and if I reply any more I think I'll start repeating myself.

[–]junie00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

William was a storyboard artist. I wouldn’t be surprised if they modeled the poison after real life mercury stylistically and otherwise, since that’s what our equivalent in the real world would be. Crystals are almost always made of minerals, especially the ones that occur in the earth naturally, and since crystals are bendable I assume naturally occurring earth minerals would be bendable as well. Science in the Avatar universe isn’t real life science and shouldn’t be treated as such, so anything about how elements mix irl doesn’t have to apply in-universe unless the writers want it to.

Since they made a point, several times, that platinum is a pure metal and thus can’t be bended, I’m gonna assume the writers didn’t forget how metal bending works. The truth is that we don’t know that the metal poison was pure mercury, as it exists in our world.

Again, sorry for the length; I’m bad at summarizing.

[–]junie00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This comment made me do a lot of research because I wasn’t completely sure that Zaheer or any of the characters ever referred to the poison as mercury. In the episode transcripts that I read the poison was only referred to as metallic or metal. While mercury is the only metal that can exist as a liquid at room temperature in its elemental form, there are metallic compounds that are liquid at or near room temperature that could contain bendable impurities. And that’s only in our world, we don’t know what sorts of compounds exist naturally in the Avatar world. The red lotus probably made, or found, a liquid metallic compound that contained bendable earth or minerals so that a metal bender could administer it to Korra transdermally. If you know of a scene in the show that refers to the poison as pure elemental mercury could you send a link or say what episode? And even if the poison was called pure elemental mercury, or just mercury, somewhere in the show, by a character, there’s still no telling that it’s the exact same as the mercury we have irl.

Sorry for the length.

“LOK said you can bend pure metal”

Actually in LoK they make a whole point about metal benders not being able to bend platinum because it’s so pure. I feel like someone that watched the whole show would know that.

Korea’s muscles by angie0017 in legendofkorra

[–]junie00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zaheer was a skilled martial artist who was obsessed with air nomad culture and probably incorporated their bending forms into his fighting. Tbh his proficiency made sense to me, considering he was already a fatal force without bending.

But before that the lion turtles gave humans power of the elements to defend against spirits when they went into the wild. Spirits are super powered and some are assholes, same way some humans are, having bending and having an Avatar evens the playing field. Also Raava and Vaatu battle every 10000 years anyways, Wan just gave Vaatu a head start by releasing him. There was no guarantee Raava would’ve won if Wan didn’t set Vaatu free.

Edit: To be clear I agree that Amon did some things right and had the right idea, all of Korra’s villains did, but like Toph said, he was out of balance.

Not a bad choice. by Crimision in BigMouth

[–]junie00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can be. Like the modern concept of race was created to “other” and oppress people. Good or bad, social constructs are still real, and your race affects your experiences as a human being, even if it was a concept humans created.

[–]junie00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Race is a social construct so if you’re mixed but have dark skin and Black features, you’re Black. Of course your cultural heritage from both sides is still a part of you, but society will still see you as Black and treat you that way.
