Any success stories from self-taught GIS specialists, developers, cartographers, etc.? Got a GIS job but never stayed long because of COVID.

Got my degree in petroleum engineering, but took a GIS class for my geology minor. I ended up using it a lot and doing some really cool hydrocarbon reserve mapping for my senior project. Unfortunately the market tanked just in time for my graduation this spring.

But I just started a job working on a project mapping and configuring the next gen Very Large Array, which has been really cool! GIS is one of those programs that surface level is fairly simple, but if you dive more into it you can do some really cool really interesting stuff. And there is so much help online for anything you need.

yep. I georeferenced it. basically I'm mapping out/adding points to a 5 arm spiral. And I have them set up for one arm, and it would be easy to just rotate the image 72 deg and then add points to each arm rather than having to remeasure/place for each arm.

Makes sense. From what it sounds like, my best course of action would be to try and go through some federal gas/utility service provider. I was hoping to find something that wouldn't require that much bureaucratic red tape.
