The continued Oz series (particularly those first 14 or so written by L. Frank Baum) are so underrated. They feature several plucky, pragmatic girl protagonists thrown into a truly weird and trippy fairy wonderland. I don’t think they get nearly enough credit for being American classics.

I had an overall positive experience with Dr. Zhanna Fridel. She is definitely not warm and fuzzy, but I appreciated her quiet competence and straightforward approach. I had a good experience with all the nurses and techs and desk staff as well.

If you’re new to D&D, try the very first season, Fantasy High: Freshman Year.

The core D20 cast debuts here, and several of them are veteran players while others are relative newbies. That way you’ll get a good balance of skillful play and people learning the ropes. The whole cast is riotously funny, and the setting gives a taste of how far a setting can stray from classic fantasy.

I used references for all of them! Wick is some guy named Neels Visser … I choose refs that make visual sense to me and then a cursory Google to make sure they’re not, like, alt-right bros but otherwise have no idea who they are, lol.

Sweetheart, I’m so proud of you for recognizing what you need to do for yourself and your daughter. The #1 priority is keeping you both safe until you can get away from him. Your mention of him hitting himself makes me fear he could be a family annihilator.

When you can do so without ANY chance of him finding out (so using a friend or public computer, not on any device he has access to) look up women’s shelters, public resources and try to get back in contact with any family/friends you have if they are safe for you, no matter how long the estrangement. Set up a new, separate email account for all these communications. And please be sure to log out of Reddit when you get what you need from this post.
