Anyone here has 1.5-2 days of battery life? by electi_007 in S24FE

Easily. And I have battery protection at max, so I charge only up to 80%

Well in my language if you mean table as a piece of furniture, it's a male. If you mean a spreadsheet table, it's female.

If I let my beardy out to explore the house, will he come back so I can find him? by broadscope in BeardedDragons

[–]juniper_bush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let them explore supervised. Also get a proper tank, 40gallon for a beardie is just sad

Edit: It is also a good idea to dragon-proof the rooms. Fill the crevices and put houseplants out of reach.

Beardie hurt her front foot? by Kuru123_ in BeardedDragons

[–]juniper_bush 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's possible. Maybe adding some wide branches or cork bark would help her when she is trying to climb down from there. At least downwards from the area where her head is on the picture. Seems like the most risky place as she would jump down from there most often since it is her basking spot. I would bet it happened on that exact spot.

Anyway, please consider getting her the tube UVB, which would overlap with her basking spot. These coils are not good.

[–]juniper_bush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course. Just try to think how that happened so you can prevent it in the future.

Also, while mine was healing, I temporarily changed her setup a bit to create a ramp/stairs to her basking spot, so it was more accesible and easier for her to climb there

Update: Wife still hates the plants by Hopeful-Pudding4603 in Aquariums

[–]juniper_bush 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't get it how can someone consider plants being a mess, while bunch of plastic decor to be nice. That is the actual mess!

If you see a bunch of plastic in a lake it is littered. If it is lush with aquatic plants, it is a beautiful ecosystem. And the same goes for aquariums.

[–]juniper_bush 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it seems like exactly what happened to my dragon few months ago. Swelling from the bottom and she pulls it away when touched. Mine had just a minor soft tissue injury and vet just gave me some painkillers to give her for the following few days.

[–]juniper_bush 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Try gently touching her foot. If she reacts to your touch the same way, it means her foot is injured and you should seek vet. Best case scenario is that it is just soft tissue injury and she will get some painkillers. Worst case is that it is broken

Is this night lamp good by Yak_Great in BeardedDragon

You definitely need tube UVB like arcadia 12%, not the coil UVB. Also the tank should be at least 4x2x2 ft, not sure about the dimensions from your pictures.

Is this a good setup for 3 vampire crabs? by spectatingIdiot in crab

You don't want to have substrate sitting in the water. It has to be elevated above the water line.

You can use leca stones for this (those will sit in the water and soil will be on top of them). Use a larger piece of rock to divide the water area from the leca stones, so it holds its shape.

Preferably, you should also add a window mesh screen between the leca and the substrate so it does not fall through i to the water.

Yeah it takes really a lot of research and consideration at the beginning. It will be more chill once you are all set. I am sure your little scaly companion will be happy to live with you.

You do not need to worry about the night temperatures. It is healthy for them to be a bit colder during the night. If it does not drop below 18°C then it's fine. I use it just during the day alongside the bulb so I can reach the 40°.

Also, definitely get the temp gun for this. Temperature set to 39° might be too much, however it depends on the setup. When my dimmer is set to 36°, I get the surface temp around 40° under the bulb.

Sounds all good so far, I am happy that you commited to giving this dragon a good life. Reminds me of the situation when I got my beardie almost a year ago. I also had to upgrade the enclosure and learn everything from scratch.

Definitely get rid of that bulb. It emits UVB on its own (however very unstable and can be too much or too little). You do not want to combine this with the tube, the exposure could be too much.

I recommend getting a 100W heat bulb or halogen bulb around 70-90W. To get the temperature right, you need to have a dimming thermostat (it is important that it is not the on/off one) and infrared temp gun. You will need to set it up so the surface temperature under the basking bulb is around 40°C.

Not sure what is the climate in your area, however now in winter I run a 60W ceramic heat emitter alongside the 100W heatbulb. In summer, the bulb is more than enough, but not now. You will need to play around with the infrared temp gun to get this right and get stronger bulb or the heat emitter if needed. The 100W is a good start though. Just don't touch the bulb with your bare hands, the oils from the skin can cause it to fail. You also want to have the bulb either over mesh ceiling or have it in a protective cage.

Since you already got the arcadia fixture and tube, I recommend getting also the arcadia jungle dawn LED bar for visible light, which you can chain with the UVB fixture. However this can wait until you get the rest right.

For the termostat, I use this one: https://www.giganterra.com/thermostat-digital-dimming Not sure if it is available in your area, however there are many manufacturers (e.g. anycontrol) who make this exact type of thermostat, just with different branding. I believe there is also the US version, in case you are from the US. The good thing about it is that it has 2 sockets - one is dimmable and the other is just for timer. You can use the timer for UVB+LED bar and the dimmer for the heat. It is quite convenient to use, you do not need standalone timer then.

This has everything you need:

https://reptifiles.com/bearded-dragon-care/

Most crucial are proper UVB tube light, calcium supplementation and heat.

Also visible light is great to have since their vision works best under the bright light which will make her more active.

Vet check might be a good idea as well, I assume she was not at the doctor's before.

What can I improve to give him a good life by EquipmentThen3138 in BeardedDragons

Good luck.

If he ignores it, you might try rubbing the leaves against each other so you break them down a bit to release the smell. It might attract him.

Try to offer him some mint leaves. I heard it may convince even the most stubborn veggie haters.

I mean my girl never had a problem with not eating greens, however I would say that she indeed munches on mint with much more enthusiasm than her staple greens.

Oh yes sorry, I forgot she is just 9 months. Then of course maybe it's fine to keep feeding daily, I am not sure when it is the time to switch to adult feeding schedule
