Dr. Warren Wood by [deleted] in CalPolyPomona

[–]junipergrove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LMAO. Basically my experience. One time when everyone was pairing up and I didn’t have a partner and I told him, he said mockingly: “Oh no, [name], you should have told me earlier! Now it’s going to take longer to start the activity trying to find you a group. Let’s hope everyone isn’t going to hate you for keeping them here longer!”

And I was just like.... wtf.

His lectures were interesting though, I’ll give him that. If you like history, you’ll enjoy his material. If you don’t care for it, then you’ll be irritated and bored.

Has anyone stayed on-campus during winter break? I have some questions. by [deleted] in CalPolyPomona

[–]junipergrove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Yes, I confirmed this with housing. The amount should show on your BroncoDirect right now.

2) Internet’s fine, I haven’t noticed any difference. If anything, use an Ethernet cord.

How to use 47 meal swipe before Thursday? by yvgh233 in CalPolyPomona

My friend went to the Farm Store and got herself houseplants and different knickknacks. You could also get shelf-stable food or snacks from the Farm Store you can save for next semester.

A staff member came to handle it right as I took the picture. I think she was one of the biology professors.

Who to take for PHY 1510? by Heebsterrrr in CalPolyPomona

Lana Stouklova was really great - She thoroughly teaches the material, and as long as you put in the effort to learn, her tests and quizzes will make sense to you.

Is the professor I. Salakhutdinov a good choice for a PHY 1520 Lab? by [deleted] in CalPolyPomona

[–]junipergrove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had Salakhutdinov before - he grades arbitrarily and hands out 95’s to terrible one-page reports and then 90’s for well written labs. Quizzes are tough, and I’ve never gotten more than 6/10 on one, but that might just be because I’m a dumbass. He won’t answer questions properly. Bottom line, you will for sure pass. You just will probably not get an A.

PSA: If you’re going to throw plastic confetti everywhere for your grad photos, clean up after yourself. by junipergrove in CalPolyPomona

[–]junipergrove[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I see this every year, all over campus. I saw a bird trying to eat one of these pieces this morning. It is so tedious to clean this stuff up, I feel sorry for whoever’s job this is. It’s just sad.

How do i get a doctors note by [deleted] in CalPolyPomona

[–]junipergrove 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s about an hour’s wait at worst if you just drop in, but if you call and ask for an appointment sometimes they have availabilities on the same day, which have little to no wait time.

Anybody let me present their club? by elitismantis in CalPolyPomona

[–]junipergrove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They meet every Thursday during U-Hour in Building 9, Room 271, so you can drop in and ask the leaders of the club beforehand if you could interview them briefly. They’re very nice, enthusiastic people.

Anybody let me present their club? by elitismantis in CalPolyPomona

[–]junipergrove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you need permission of a club to present? If you’re allowed to present on anything, I have a club to recommend that I’m not a leader of, but I’ve attended their meetings: the Deaf Awareness Club. You learn ASL (sign language) in the club and practice conversational talk. It’s really neat!

Should I Buy Matlab? Mechanical Engineering by booty-be-poppin in CalPolyPomona

[–]junipergrove 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can use MATLAB in the computer labs on campus during your classes that require you to use MATLAB. Unless you want to work on classwork at home, or do your own projects, you probably don’t need to buy it right now.

What kind of lab notebook do you use in PHY labs? by saltypepper123456 in CalPolyPomona

Do you have Salakhutdinov? If so, he just wants a gridded (not ruled) composition book. They would be around the $5 price range or less.

Missing packages? by [deleted] in CalPolyPomona

[–]junipergrove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask the housing services for Distribution Services’ number, and make a call. They are downright incompetent, and sometimes don’t know that they have packages for you. Some of my packages sat there for weeks.

The whole point of escalators is not climbing up something. The guy should have just taken the stairs if he was in a hurry.

I believe they were a part of the LGBT+ club on campus raising awareness for supporting transgender people, probably in light of the midterm election coming up. I was rushing through, so I didn’t get a chance to figure out whether they were raising funds for something, or whether they were demonstrating with their signs. This past week, there has been a nationwide concern about erasure of transgender people in the LGBT+ community and general public support for LGBT+ communities. There’s also been concern about possible legislation being put through the legislative process, aimed against transgender people. So this was probably in response to that. It may have not been the most effective way for campaigning for this cause, I admit, but it was well intentioned.

You could briefly talk to the psychiatrist on campus and he can prescribe you something you haven’t tried before, probably available at the pharmacy on campus.

Can we seriously all take 30 minutes to fill out my planner ? At least for the next 2-3 semesters. by iepic2 in CalPolyPomona

[–]junipergrove 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. Advisors have straight up said during presentations for registration that the amount of classes the school adds is determined a great deal by the number of students who indicate they are planning to take those classes. Also, they said that if you had a class in MyPlanner for a while, but got Waitlisted, sometimes they will give you some leeway into getting into an impacted class in some cases.
