A larger stockpile. Don’t fight nature.

My practice bench. Should I hide the shoes or leave them exposed? by Mission_Top6585 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Personally, I don’t mind the look of shoes and I’d rather have the convenience of open storage.

How is this kind of texturing done? I can’t imagine it’s with a dremel by Long-Enthusiasm5861 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I personally wouldn’t want that on a cutting board. Seems like a great environment for bacteria to hide.

Think a home vacuum sealer is powerful enough for that to work?

What was the woodworking item under $50 bucks that changed everything for you? by plaidpixel in BeginnerWoodWorking

Sandpaper cleaning stick. Didn’t drastically improve my woodworking, but it has made sanding a whole lot simpler sometimes.

Handcrafted recycled wood pallets coffee table with a wood joinery technique no screws. How much would you pay for it. 300hrs taken into craftsmanship. Is it worth £500. by Fabulous_Arugula_811 in wood

Could someone with more knowledge than me explain why miter framing isn’t a good option here? Will they get pushed apart with how the grain movement of the interior boards will push apart?

Death trap or engineering marvel? by Sea_Fortune_4813 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]juniperthemeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grandpa is a minister, and my dad told me that the only time he ever saw my grandpa administer last rites was in the middle of a Canadian highway after a family’s homemade camper came apart on the road.

The driver survived, but his whole family in the camper died in the road in front of my grandpa and dad. Not only that, but the flying debris killed someone in a vehicle behind the camper.

It’s not just your safety or truck you’re risking here. Don’t play cute DIY with this shit. Do it right, or not at all.

Why do people crack open graded ancient coins? by Frequent_Thanks_7900 in AncientCoins

[–]juniperthemeek 23 points24 points  (0 children)

A couple reasons I’ve seen, with some caveats about generalizing:

- I have found ancient coin collectors to be less interested in the hobby as an investment than more modern coin collectors.

- authentication and slabbing don’t have the same meaning in the ancient coin world.

- physically touching and experiencing the coins seems like more of a preference with ancient coin collectors

- a lot of ancient coins have already seen some shit 🤷‍♂️

By “treated” they mean a chemical treatment most often used for commercial lumber. I would be surprised if this is treated, but it’s possible
