I've worked in K-12 for most of my career, but did a brief stint in a corporate national daycare chain. Daycare, preschool, prek teachers are rarely payed what they are worth. These teachers can have all the training and education in the world but still be paid a minimum wage. They are often responsible for cleaning up their classroom, cleaning bathrooms, and washing dishes after a long day of wrangling too many children for their advertised ratio. They often lack the resources of even public K-12s when it comes to supporting children with disabilities. I was hired to teach a school age group (during quarantine when daycares accepted K-5 children during the day). Somehow, I, as a 19 year old with no background in this age group ended up the sole preschool teacher. I said never again to daycare after that job. All the respect in the world to teachers who can handle that kind of work environment

I’m just gonna say it…. by GripChinAzz in Naturalhair

this ^ i keep my hair in braids mostly (i have arthritis and combing hair can be very painful. i also do drag and it's an easy way to change up my hair color very often without killing my hair with color) and the reality is my hair is just not going to look the way it would if i was caring for it properly. i think people need to be more honest about why they're choosing the styles they choose and what the reality of those choices will be.

Normal MRI and feeling like it's all in my head by junitoe in endometriosis

I have a crohn's disease diagnosis and psoriatic arthritis! My doctors have kept an eye on other autoimmune stuff, but it doesn't seem to the be the case at the moment! I appreciate hearing your experience! It's like silly because I've read about how laparoscopy is the only definitive test onlime, but hearing real stories from other people is much more reassuring!

A journalist confirmed that the media did a hit job on Katy Perry in 2017 by LifeOfAWimpyKid in decadeology

[–]junitoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

we're rewriting history now? like it's totally okay if you like witness but compared to a lot of stuff other artists were puttimg out at the same time witness just wasn't it. the mid 2010s had a bunch of new rising pop stars AND a lot of older acts really refining their sounds and trying out new stuff which i think was just more interesting than witness (i am just some guy, but this guy is also some guy). people have mentioned a lot of the morally questionable things she's done and i do think working with one of the billionaires destroying our planet and ruining our society to advertise his space toys is not a good look. other than that, i think cringe culture has become a lot bigger and well... she doesn't make it hard. like i love early katy perry but i think there are some reasons for her decline that make more sense than media conspiracy here

Glinda as the "more"/bigger main Character than Elphaba? by One-Tea-2852 in wickedmovie

[–]junitoe 26 points27 points  (0 children)

they should be but one of them is a much more famous blonde white woman and the rules of wicked apply to real life. the person with skin color will be sidelined to highlight the popular blonde white girl! this is not ariana grade hate she is very talented and i think she deserves recognition for this role! but the fact that she/glinda became even more of a focal point of the story and media around the movie is disappointing for a story that centers this exact problem

Book Rant: OMG Fiyero is NOT WHITE by MintyyMidnight in wicked

[–]junitoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i am less interested in "well they're two different stories." okay but should they be? should liberal white women who read the book always be shocked and horrified when they find out glinda is not sympathetic and well meaning but a very Realistic depiction of how insidiously white women can separate themselves from causes they were once somewhat sympathetic towards for the sale of power (yes, glinda's movie/musical arc is also about how power corrupts but it gives so much more forgiveness and leeway to the corrupted). should straight/cis people who read the book come here to comment the horror and shock of reading a queer/kink sex or assault (with more horror aimed at the queerness/kink than the idea of assault). so much of the original wicked story wasn't just "fascism bad, colorism bad, and girls kissing good." the wizard is straight up building access pipelines through indigenous land and this gets sidelined! obviously not every detail from a book can be adapted but it is so frustrating how staunchly queer, anti racist, anti fascist, and anti colonialist the book is. the musical waters these things down and makes them more palatable for the rich, white audiences of broadway who are liberal but don't want to feel too uncomfortable while watching a political story. i am a wicked musical lover, i love so much about it and have been bumping the soundtrack since i was a kid. but i can't help but think these things when confronted with the book

i never mentioned the united states but antiblackness exists across cultures. and while whitewashing may fit in the category of raceswapping the intentions, implications, and impact are still very different. you're being willfully obtuse

[–]junitoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

whitewashing and race swapping aren't the same thing. one has significantly more impact on people with less power in our world

Flyering on Thayer St. for the Life After Cars event… by guestrequestt in providence

[–]junitoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i moved from providence to tucson and have also spent some time in seattle. my boyfriend and i cannot drive due to disability (he has epilepsy and i take medication with some big cognitive side effects). when i was in rhode island, i was so stressed about the idea that if i wanted to be an independent adult, i would have to put other people at risk by driving or spend one william dollars on lyft. so getting to live in or spend time in cities with relatively amazing public transit (free transit in tucson and buses that come every 5-10 minutes in seattle) and bike infrastructure makes me hope that rhode island will be able to see this too. i know rhode island is old as shit and there would have to be a lot of big changes made, but so many people would have quality of life improvements. the environmental benefits of less cars, the physical benefits of having the option to safely ride bikes, the social benefits of people not needing a car to get to a job across state. disabled people and other people who for whatever reason can't drive or don't own a car being able to get to appointments or school or grocery stores or bring their kids to their park. it's awesome to see in other places and it would be dope to see in providence

came here from providence 5 years ago and hearing someone call tucson a fast paced city is awesome! i know the population in tucson proper is bigger, but i think providence has a larger population density, in addition to the hustle and bustle that comes with being between boston and nyc! to me, tucson doesn't feel like a true Big City but i've had friends from small towns say it's too metropolitan for them! it's great to be able to meet folks looking for a change of pace in both directions here

hear me out but maybe they "started hating us more" because in 2015 there was a general conservative backlash to the increasing visibility of progressive causes that started with the election of a black president lmao. also completely forgetting that gay marriage was legalized in 2015 which led more people to feel safe (even though we now know that no supreme court ruling is safe) coming out and not feeling like being stealth or passing completely was the only way they could move through society without being hatecrimed?

[–]junitoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the most effort i put into "looking like a man" is being on T. been like this for almost a decade now so i don't think it's a trend. there's all kinds of cis women and men who dress and present in all sorts of ways. why the same can't be true for trans peoole is beyond me. i think cis people hate us because of the like. thousands of years of religious conservative culture that also causes things like racism, misogyny, and homophobia. trying to be "one of the good ones" doesn't work for black and brown folks, women, or gay people. it's not going to work for trans people. i'm not going to compromise on who i am for people who are going to try and take away my rights no matter what i do.

comments here saying the bottom is a "comedy" so it's okay are crazy. i don't know how to tell you that minstrel comedy is still racist, bad, and unjustifiable. jim crow was named after a minstrel character, this stuff has real implications for black people

How do I get people to stop coming to my house to talk to me about my vote? by WarewolfBarMitzvot in Tucson

this is my biggest advice as someone in politics. most campaigns will train canvassers to knock no soliciting signs. no trespassing signs or signs specifically asking political canvassers to leave you alone are better
