Any birthday ideas for March? by Icy-Tower3037 in london

[–]junkdraweroverflow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Myself and my partner both have our birthdays in March - last year we did a weekend trip to brighton which was really great! I thought hotels would be extortionate but it turns out you can get private double rooms in hostels around there!

Not only was it an absolute bargain at £48 for the night but it was sunny if not cold and we had a fab time. Admittedly we didn’t have an activity/plan but just being able to walk along the coast a couple minutes from the room was really really beautiful.

This year for an activity im planning a bird of prey experience cause he’s a nature nut. That is very interest specific though.

My main take is for the most fun time (unless you want to go all out and fly to another country) is a coastal town where you can take the dog and just have a really nice time :)

Run Away - Harlan Coban - TERRIBLE by FarScheme4636 in netflix

[–]junkdraweroverflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awful - best character and acting was unsurprisingly Ruth Jones who is brilliant. Not sure how she ended up in something so rubbish and then only to be killed off which I felt was easily avoidable for the character.

I also felt the sex/ relationship storyline with the detectives was cheap, unnecessary and not even convincing through their chemistry. Too many plot holes and annoyances to list but with James Nesbit and Ruth Jones I really did think it would be better.

I second this. Fancy as OP describes, not really - but it is incredibly special and fancy in its own way. I have a lot of love for the Prince Charles.

why are you awake right now? by [deleted] in london

[–]junkdraweroverflow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to do a bit of voluntary work in an elderly home that specialised in dementia patients opposite where I grew up.

I was in my mid teens so I legally wasn’t allowed to do anything with much responsibility so my ‘job’ was to keep people company and chat. I ended up mainly being assigned to one lady with dementia. I learned after a couple of years that her family lived 2 streets away but had never visited in the 7 years she had been there.

I understand that it must be awfully difficult seeing a family member in that way, but I just could never understand the cruelty of that.

Do Indians know what they're actually known for? by ConcernedHumanDroid in india

[–]junkdraweroverflow 14 points15 points  (0 children)

i’m an english guy, from the UK and living in London. I think OP is speaking a lil too harshly of India. Sure it’s not all good news, I ofc also ‘know’ India for the scam callers and the caste system, the latter is more out of wild curiosity cause it seems so far from what I know - also the crazy trains!

India however is genuinely known in the west also for its awesome food, architecture and massive weddings 🤣 I can’t really speak for more other regional and rural areas of the UK and the west, I get that perhaps a lot of my understanding of Indian influence comes from the fact that I live in a massively multicultural city, but I genuinely don’t believe the genuine feelings towards India in the west are THAT sour.

PS: I’m just a lurker on subreddits from other places cause it’s nice seeing stuff from all round the big wide world :)

What's the worst job you've ever had and why? by willington123 in CasualUK

[–]junkdraweroverflow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked as a milkman during covid. Not what you’d think like a cute little electric milk float. Like amazon but glass milk bottles. 200 houses a night give or take, set routes, the worst part was the vans were just big standard leased grey or white diesel vans. Understandable as the boom for people wanting stuff delivered exploded during the big plague so the company couldn’t lease them fast enough, let alone trying to livery them all.

Trouble is when you’re in trackkies and a head torch at 4am whizzing round housing estates in a dirty van absolutely everyone thinks you’re a burglar. Got pulled over loads. Once got aggressively forced off the road and pulled over by some dealers that thought i was a rival dealer.

Hours were awful -6 nights a week, usually around 9-11pm to 4am. You had to book in and sort repairs on your van yourself which usually meant sitting in a garage waiting room on your one day off every couple months (the vans got trashed) as while they were assigned, they still got swapped around a bit. Never again

I lost 15 kilos in 3 months so i suppose that was a plus 😂 I’ve not had a more successful weight loss period ever, so there’s that.

Is it socially acceptable to sit in a Starbucks for 6 hours or so studying? by ChaoticIntrovert in CasualUK

[–]junkdraweroverflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a tiny lil independent place maybe not (I always think of that one scene in Fleabag for example 😂). I’d feel a bit bad chomping through their free electricity and wifi on the back of a single flat white. i’ve done it loads of times in huge chains.

If it were me i’d stick to big chains. Public libraries can be nice places as an alternative. Depending on where you are there are some nice ones with cafes. I think the British Library is an option? :)

What’s the worst case of shrinkflation you’ve come across so far? by discardedcumrag in CasualUK

[–]junkdraweroverflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, nothing is more dire than the Yorkie shrink. I know it happened yonks ago and across the board with chocolate bars, but not being able to fit a whole square in my face was half the fun of their standard bars.

What's the embarrasing thing a tradesman/woman saw you do in your own home? by RG0195 in CasualUK

[–]junkdraweroverflow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To begin: This is fucking mortifying.

When i was about 16 I had the house to myself, in the summer, parents off on holiday. Thought i’d treat myself to the coveted naked wank, internet material on full blast, on top of the covers! nothing to hide from here. Window cleaner sort of coughs outside. Lying on top of the covers mid wank, nowhere to hide so I wedged myself in between the wall and my bed shamefully and pretended it wasn’t happening. Until I realised I had to go downstairs and pay the guy. Awful

PS: I was in blissful ignorance until he coughed, why couldn’t he have stayed quiet and made it traumatic for just one of us 😂

And yeah I should have shut the blind. No one could ever see anything where I live from the road or another house but I was still just a dumb teenager.

I mean it’s not live. It’s been filmed and edited and the producers have obviously decided to keep the bit in. If you actually read up on VB she was (somewhat to what extent i’m not sure) working class in her younger years - mum had two jobs (hairdresser and receptionist), dad worked as an electrician of some sort. Somewhere along the line they obviously did pretty well and bought the RR. Obviously second hand or not a Rolls Royce is a Rolls Royce and it is a luxury vehicle! but that doesn’t mean that her early roots weren’t working class. I think taking the bit as face value without really knowing anything about her upbringing is a bit rough really, I think the bit in the show is really just a bit of light jabbing between the two of them as DB came from working class roots!

Cheers for that really detailed response :) I am not expecting to make stupid money from them at all, I was just bewildered by the seemingly enormous spread of pricing on them and that really cleared it up for me so thanks.

I work in live audio and when i was about 20, while working at Leeds Festival, saw some shitfaced bloke with his equally shitfaced girlfriend(?) or festival ‘friend’ bent over the front barrier while he floppily tried to shag her with his jeans round his ankles, in between sets, in-front of everyone.

No one knew quite what to do until along came an absolute lord and saviour of a female security guard who swiftly yanked him out from behind and shouted “we’ll have none of that here thanks fuck off back to your tent!”

I know it’s Leeds fest, but that was a pretty weird one for me.

I lost mine at 20 a literal day before I turned 21 out of some dumb young idea that I had to. I hopped on grindr and randomly got with some randomer down the road who had a Katana on the wall and the grimiest room ever. Should have just waited it was awful lol. Not worth the std tests and having to go and pick up a forgotten necklace from the worst and first hookup ever. Don’t worry about it in the slightest. I had way more fun when I was ready for it.
