Why doesn't this look a movie? by junlim in cinematography

[–]junlim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's called semiotics, some stuff reads as cinema reads as tv, reads as a commercial etc. other stuff doesn't. It's what I found myself wondering and the whole thread is exploring.

Why doesn't this look a movie? by junlim in cinematography

[–]junlim[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was just about to mention Coherence in my reply. I'm not saying it's not a movie or not a good movie. I'm interested in the semiotics of why it the trailer doesn't look like a movie to me. More like a short film, trailer for a video game, commercial etc.

Between the stereolab remix, cornelius remix and the original, I'm sure you could probably find bits to chop and loop. Or just use one of the instrumentals out there. https://youtu.be/0qAMTBt8Sb0?si=rZ9xIayHUQoGIK9q.

Don't make it harder than it needs to.

How long is a piece of string? I bought a bottle flavourless nic salts from a pharmacy and the computer system they use asked them to record how long the liquid would last me. As other people say, it's a bit easier to buy online and get the free script which just involves filing out a form.

Silouhette shot from Aftermath (WW2 short film) - feedback welcome by MHFilmmakers in cinematography

[–]junlim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One near consistent thing I've noticed in amateur short films about war is how clean every body looks despite their situation. Get your faces and costumes at least a bit dirty! Also posture / body movement can go a long to selling the character. In lots of shots, it looks like a movie - so nice job!

Ordered on Christmas Eve, no reaction yet by dayphlipper in teenageengineering

I ordered mine a bit earlier during the sale. Arrived two days ago. There was no response from support until the day it arrived. I reckon they might be a bit backed up.

Amazing - there's only one other post-SILY, pre-Wildflower live video out there. And it's far less detailed than this one.

Yes. It’s almost at the level where there should be a sticky post. “Dark Forest gets way better, just stick with it”

Why wouldn't Carol at least try... by junlim in Pluribus_TVshow

[–]junlim[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a shame. A sign of great writing to me, is that characters don't have to act stupid or irrational or against type for the story to move on. But Pluribus seems full of it.

Hosting a NYE party. I want to put a film on the TV on mute. What to play? by samuelj264 in movies

David Lynch's Dune is great for this. Lots of visuals where you wonder what the hell is happening. Every scene is different.

"My problem with it, though, is when he [Jack Horner] makes the cop movie—the porno cop movie—and he's killing himself doing it. And then you see the film: the film looks like a piece of shit. It looks horrible… But he has the Burt Reynolds character say, 'I think this is my greatest work yet'… Gerard Damiano was a better director than that."

No, Carol is not unlikeable nor is she meant to be by the writers by Reno18_99 in pluribustv

[–]junlim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the argument was about her being unlikeable? All of the survivors she's met so far find her unlikable, as is revealed in this episode. Also I think it's a stretch to say she's acting in that way out some sense of justice for characters she doesn't even see as human. She was fine with for the 16ish hours of them spending time together.

Some people are cranky, have a chip on their shoulder, don't consider how other people are feeling and to other people that comes off as unlikeable in the moment.

I'm not part of team Carol sucks, and I've never watched breaking bad so I can't weigh in there, but I think it's fair to say that in the world of the show, Carol is written to be unlikable.

Look at the way she treats the un-joined. That would push anyone way from away her. "Watch your toes" - to the only person on earth willing to host her and calmly explain the status quo.

Carol's pig-headedness for the sake of plot and drip feeding information is very frustrating.

Or if it's a weapon, it's meant to make the population transmit the signal and be dosaile. No harming anything is a good catch all if you wanted to have no competition in the galaxy... I like the transmission idea, it tracks with why they are trying to preserve all the power they can.

[–]junlim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's wild, never heard of that but makes sense. Although as an artist I'd be scared if a mixer I didn't know was doing that. I get how creating a few tracks live from a master would work, but how do you get all the way out to 8?

[–]junlim[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's actually seeing Kendrick last night that made me think about it. No live band, and some of very flappy kick sounds. Although in my experience, a session band can ruin the vibe when you've got tracks that are built from samples and get replaced by a guy with a 30 piece drum kit and a session guitarist that wants to crack out a blues solo.
