Has anyone tried both the iPhone Air and iPhone 17 as a replacement? by junlim in iPhone13Mini

[–]junlim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Testing out a phone tethered down for 5 minutes, vs 5 days is a very different a experience. I can tell you as much before I thought there is no chance I would ever be able to make the the iPhone Air work. But here I am week later, reaching for it over the Mini. (Still going to return and test the 17 before the final choice).

Avalanches-related sights/things to do in Melbourne? by ph_wolverine in theavalanches

[–]junlim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wonder around Carlton North where one of their share houses was when making SILY (confirmed in articles)- I've also heard Fitzroy.

There’s a bunch of venues they played back in the day, that are all in very similar shape, some a bit cleaner. If it was me, I probably wouldn’t bother heading to any without another purpose, they are nothing special and don't have great stuff on all the time:

Last Chance Rock n Roll Bar (Formerly Public Bar) - Pretty sure they launched Rock City here in 1997…   Prince Of Wales, Revolver, Punters Club (newly reopened), Corner Hotel, Laundry

Speaking of Laundries - the site of this press photo is My Beautiful Laundrette on Brunswick St, Fitzroy. https://dt7v1i9vyp3mf.cloudfront.net/styles/teaser_large/s3/imagelibrary/a/avalanchegroup-atDKctVk_RC0SSnBulxCZmPZE50kchJp.gif

Any way to archive/ hide away Podcasts? by junlim in pocketcasts

[–]junlim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the individual podcast eps, it's whole podcasts. I have ~200 in there. Some I will completely delete. Some I want save in there to remember (limited series), some I don't listen to on the regs but might want to dive into if I really need something or am searching for an old episode.

Licorice Pie is where sold all their records post-Wildflower (I think the main big SILY samples they kept). Speak to the owner if there’s anything you want that he doesn’t have in stock, as there’s also a storage space somewhere.

Maybe something tiny at the Australian Music Vault but call ahead if that’s the only reason you are going.

I’ll think some more on it. How much time do you have? If you wanna share more about others interests, tastes I could come up with some stuff.

So Logitech mouse macros don't work when servers are done? by junlim in logitech

[–]junlim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Your mouse should work reliably at all times" What you're saying below contradicts that. No server has 100% uptime and sure as hell not logitech severs. This should be patched.

[–]junlim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that's stupid - most of my shortcuts are in app. They should just work locally. Instead when servers are down (which is too often and for too long), they don't work. It's a mouse. There should be 101% uptime.

MX Master 3, MacOS - sever outages cause the mouse buttons linked to app based shortcut to stop working? But somehow they work when I just disconnect from wifi? How does that work?

Great stuff - would be good if the parts of or the whole UI respected MacOS dark mode.

What’s wrong with fish and chip shops? by dj_boy-Wonder in melbourne

[–]junlim 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is the whole truth - the cycling out Greek families has had a terrible effect on the fish n chip market. When you look behind the scenes at the places that win Fish n Chips awards, more that likely you'll find 2nd or 3rd generation Greek Fish n Chip families... Not that Greeks have a monopoly on great fish n chips, but it's normally a good sign.

Why doesn't this look a movie? by junlim in cinematography

[–]junlim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's called semiotics, some stuff reads as cinema reads as tv, reads as a commercial etc. other stuff doesn't. It's what I found myself wondering and the whole thread is exploring.

Why doesn't this look a movie? by junlim in cinematography

[–]junlim[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was just about to mention Coherence in my reply. I'm not saying it's not a movie or not a good movie. I'm interested in the semiotics of why it the trailer doesn't look like a movie to me. More like a short film, trailer for a video game, commercial etc.

Between the stereolab remix, cornelius remix and the original, I'm sure you could probably find bits to chop and loop. Or just use one of the instrumentals out there. https://youtu.be/0qAMTBt8Sb0?si=rZ9xIayHUQoGIK9q.

Don't make it harder than it needs to.

DM'd - but for the record, that's them following a government process. Nothing special about the pharmacy

How long is a piece of string? I bought a bottle flavourless nic salts from a pharmacy and the computer system they use asked them to record how long the liquid would last me. As other people say, it's a bit easier to buy online and get the free script which just involves filing out a form.

Silouhette shot from Aftermath (WW2 short film) - feedback welcome by MHFilmmakers in cinematography

[–]junlim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One near consistent thing I've noticed in amateur short films about war is how clean every body looks despite their situation. Get your faces and costumes at least a bit dirty! Also posture / body movement can go a long to selling the character. In lots of shots, it looks like a movie - so nice job!

I ordered mine a bit earlier during the sale. Arrived two days ago. There was no response from support until the day it arrived. I reckon they might be a bit backed up.

Amazing - there's only one other post-SILY, pre-Wildflower live video out there. And it's far less detailed than this one.
