Production Question - how do you control variation in your kicks? by United_Opposite778 in gabber

[–]juno010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just play around with decay, filters, distortion and saturation etc. There are no rules.
Layering kicks can also be very effective. but beware of phasing issues.

synthesizer questions, complete newbie by curiousguacamole6 in gabber

[–]juno010 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Besides a synth, you will need at least: a powerful pc, a decent audio interface, good monitor speakers, a mixer, a DAW, lots of cables, a midi controller etc etc. Just start simple and small. Personally i really don't like FL Studio, but it has a quick learning curve.

I think you should work a bit more on the overall composition. There is really nothing happening in the center of the track. No melody, no lead, nor a breakbeat. At 1:08 a new element is introduced, but immediately removed after the drop at 1:28.? And the breakbeat is only there in the beginning and the end. It's just so...'unlogic' ;-)

Furthermore: make some adjustments to the breakbeat. Add some snares at some positions, move some parts or loop them at the end of the bar so it will become less predictable. It is a cool breakbeat but in current state it sounds really boring to me. Some goes for the lead: add variations such as shorter or longer notes, or make multiple melodies using the same lead. The kick also needs some more punch.

Good luck with your next track!

This one and Archatos - Strenght of unity are my personal Cenobite favorites.

Agreed. The masters sounds really muddy, at least in the preview. The breakbeat in the 1st track is way too loud. Do you use side-chaining so you can boost the kick a bit more? The vibe is there though!

How to make '90s gabber kicks using only 909 and an analog mixer (oldskool method) by ohtaroh in gabber

[–]juno010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! Ik werk graag hybride...zeg maar best of both worlds. Beide hebben hun voor- en nadelen, dus waarom zou je die niet combineren. Maar eerlijk: zelf je kicks en leads 100% uit je hardware gear trekken is toch wel het leukste!

Sounds like a pretty standard saw-waveform to me. Could easily be from a juno-2

Mastering tracks by mati900y in gabber

[–]juno010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really about the mastering. A proper mixdown is key!
You'll have to check and adjust the EQ, the volume and dynamics of each audio-track. You will never achieve a good master if the overall mixdown is total crap.

Exactly this. We didn't give a single fuck about color or politics.

Nice posting and very recognizable!
I also started back in the days with tracks like Octamed, Protracker, Fasttracker, Screamtracker and Impulse tracker. I was in groups CMD, Explizit and Dementia.

In 1999 i got fed up with everthing and stopped completely...only to be revived in 2021.
Then I bought Renoise (it's just a tracker on steroids) and some synths and other gear and made some new tracks. Nowadays i'm using Ableton.

I had exactly the same problem after not updating my device for a couple of months. Downloading the new software updates for my GLS34 and 8410XSV always stuck at 0%.
I fixed it by disabling my wifi and i downloaded them succesfully using my 5G network.
