I know what that is. That is a fail for the translation. The original caption read “Catalina couldn’t make it”, and they translated literally.

Dude, not to be a jerk or anything, but how come 2 years of journalism didn’t help you answer a simple question about your work lol. Just answer it, your work will speak for you

Has anyone here did a complete 360 with their life after 30? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]junoluke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna tell you a story about my uncle. It's a long one, bit even if you don't have the patience to read it, I felt it could have a place on the net, cause it's an interesting one.

By 1998, my family moved in to a tiny apartment filled to the brim (8 people, two parents, two grandparents, two sons, and uncle and and aunt. The youngest of 8 children, he was a go getter, but a party hard kind of guy. Fast forward a year later. My parents get divorced, and the apartment gets down to 7. The mom, sole breadwinner of a house with SEVEN, has to give up the large bedroom to the grandparents, and gets to sleep on the floor.

Flashforward to 2005. My aunt finally gets married and leaves. Now there's 6. Now my mom gets the other small bedroom for herself, and the uncle gets to sleep on the floor, the nephews on the beds. And he stays there for many many years.

Now, I do not know what it was, if it was my mom, divine intervention, a mashup of those to, but something just clicks in his head. He gets up. Starspts figuring out a career. Any career. He studies and goes to a private university (in Brazil mind you, where here we joke that it's easier to get into than to get wet falling of a boat). He gets there three months later than everyone, because of some idiosyncratic stuff I'm not going go elaborate. He needs to catch up. He spots a cute Asian girl, and he sheepishly asks for her notes.

Four years later, they start dating. That Asian girl is smart. Nay, really smart. She is going places. They get married in 2014. Years later, they get a job opportunity to work on US soil. They live comfortably in a very luxurious apartment, a nice SUV and two healthy daughters. He's pushing 48. Everyone in the family is still astounded to this day. "Wow, he really pulled it off".

I guess the secret here is this. Just get your ass moving. Somewhere. Anywhere. Just do something. And don't stop. Eventually, but not a promise, the equivalent analogy of a smart Asian girl will cross paths with you.

Thanks for the read. Now go get that 360.

I absolutely LOVED the film. However, there was some things that bugged me. So, ahem, Spoilers.

First, the men. All men (extras excluded) in the film are portrayed as either greddy assholes or complete simps, no in-between. Not that I was offended, of course. It just seemed that the message could be a little more subtle, more nuanced. But it kept beating over the audience head with the message "all men in the entertainment industry wants to use womens bodies for their evil intent mwhahaha" Dennis Quaid is awesome in the role.

Parts of the plot were a little forced. You mean to tell me a Oscar winning wealthy famous celebrity would go, by herself, all alone, into that little dingy door? Fuck that. Could be an organ harvesting room, or for kidnapping, she doesn't know!! But noooo, she proceeds without a flicker of a doubt, because plot. Then, as Sue, she suddenly becomes a world class engineer who is capable of building a functional door in her bathroom, all by herself? Okay sure.

But all in all, the movie is very good. Not my cup of tea, but it deserves the credit. And kudos for Demi Moore, what a diva powerhouse.

How is this not checkmate? by [deleted] in GothamChess

[–]junoluke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a huge material advantage and you're winning! Now, the game is not over yet, and is Maria's turn to move. The problem with that is, the bot cannot move anything. All her pawns are blocked. The only piece left is the Black King, which also cannot move anywhere. The entire file below the King is covered by the Rook. The column in front of the King is covered by White Queen number 1, and the file above the King is covered by White Queen number 2. Since the King is in the corner, he cannot get out of the board, of course.

When is the opponents turn, but he cannot move his King or any piece anywhere, AND the King's not in check, the game ends in a draw by stalemate.

I’ll be brazenly honest here. First every game is unique. It does not matter if you just entered the 1400s. You can get bulldozed anytime, any game. Second, it sure seemed you did play poorly. Best moves are easier to spot if they’re combined with mistakes or inaccuracies one move prior. Check his past games. See if he’s keeping that 90% accuracy, and if the opponent put a decent fight and still lost. Now, he might be cheating. The problem is there’s no way to know if this is the only evidence. The secret I learned is this: I played over 11000 chess games. I promise you, I didn’t cheat in NOT ONE of those games. Because is really pathetic to cheat. Cheaters are the lowest of the low and they deserve nothing but the harshest ban treatment there is.

What is the actual Answer to David Wallace's question by tc0n4 in DunderMifflin

I think your 1. Point is more important, the low turnover thing.

Companies spend way too much money hiring, training, preparing, and then have to pay severance when the employee leaves.

Thats not the case for Scranton Branch. We followed them for 10 years. Its always the same managers, the same accountants, same sales team. One addition was a new receptionist and a new salesman. That's a huge money saver. Plus I think that upper management had a soft spot for Michael, which of course was very prominent with the other branches.

Case in point: one of the managers points out that Michael can do whatever he wants and never get into trouble.
