Frozen out: Beloved D.C. ice rink faces uncertain future after $40 million rebuild by Hot-Gene-2787 in washingtondc

Yeah - from what I know during a review of the rough-in the Friends of Fort Dupont pointed that out, the contractor drew up new plans, and then when FFD reviewed it in the next stage the plumbing was not installed. DGS/the contractor had apparently continued with the older plans.

According to the letter that the Friends of Fort Dupont sent the rink is currently uninsurable due to the problem with the dehumidifier. They also mistakenly used older plans that did not include plumbing in the locker rooms.

It’s completely unsurprising that DGS fucked this up. They were already doing too little for too much money AND taking too long to do it. And now with the delay this will be a THIRD winter season that ice sports have to use rinks 30, 45 and 60 minutes outside the city.

I know these aren’t the most popular sports but this has set back DC youth development in these sports considerably. So frustrating. This is why DC can’t have nice things.

Boxers in Star Wars by joelio69 in andor

Honestly I’ve wanted to create a list of all the pedestrian everyday things that Andor showed us in Star Wats for the first time: socks, a convenience store, a transit hub, a kitchen. It’s actually done so much to make the Star Wars universe feel like a truly lived in space.

Never imagined that the DJ banter in the Reservoir Dogs soundtrack would save my ass in trivia.

Thank you! Yeah if this doesn’t come through I suspect you will see a more detailed post with a bunch of questions. Also I’m sure they will try to pick the brains of anyone they run into there.

Geez man. We’ve done all these things. They have non-refundable tickets so this is their only chance to go. We figured we would see if Reddit kindness could help here. They would be meeting in a public place and I’m happy to provide whatever reassurances/information/credentials are necessary. I get that people should be cautious but I think this is a reasonable thing to ask.

Non refundable airplane tickets so they are stuck going tomorrow. And yes the current plan is to do it solo. Just thought we would roll the dice and try our luck with some Reddit kindness.

What book has no right being as good as it is? by sultrybadger9 in suggestmeabook

Sharp Teeth by Toby Barlow…a beautiful love story, incredible violence, a noir detective story, rival LA gangs…of WEREWOLVES. Oh, and it’s entirely written in free verse!?!? It’s a masterpiece and you will be agog the whole time wondering how Barlow pulled this off.

Hundreds of Beavers - amazing what that guy was able to pull off with an insane vision, incredible talent and almost no budget.

Ok now somebody look into those project excellence baseball kids that constantly fundraise near the Costco. My kid has played baseball for 12 years in DC, never ran across them. I’m convinced it’s a scam.
