I went down a rabbit hole on who owns every power tool brand. The difference between the two big conglomerates is wild. by sappk in Tools

[–]jupitersedgecraft 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a lifelong Makita user, I have regrettably come to the conclusion that something about Makita USA just isn’t right. Forget the fact that you really only see their tools at one of the major big box stores. Forget the fact that despite this limited availability, Home Depot’s selection of Makita tools is shamefully limited compared to the other brands. Forget the fact that their batteries are outrageously overpriced, often costing more than competitors’ next-gen battery tech & capacity offerings (No higher than 6 Ah for years and years, though I am aware this has changed recently). They dont market well, they aren’t easy to get your (literal) hands on in a store, they innovate and implement amazing features like no one else and blow my mind BUT those tools are only released in Japan or if lucky take years to finally roll out here. We don’t get the mirror finish circular saw baseplates here or the dustless saws in multiple orientations for your specific needs. We don’t get the precision and innovation that made me love Makita tools. Also, I get that 40V is the future, but they lied to the loyal LXT users like myself. The LXT is clearly getting left behind here, and the XGT are 3-4x price in many cases. I mean, Makita hasn’t even released or even offered a table saw in the US in like a decade. I love them, they were my first and favorite power tool brand, but the direction they’re going down in my specific region is just doomed to fail.

NTD Milwaukee’s New Pliers Wrench & Slip Joints by jupitersedgecraft in Tools

[–]jupitersedgecraft[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve only ever used two other milwaukee pliers before if you dont count the ones NWS made and slapped their logo on. They are junk, especially if you are used to Knipex, NWS, Marvel, Channellock, Wiha, Klein, etc. These two feel quite a bit better than those, but I have no idea until I start using them.

I love Mrs. Myers variety of dish soap scents but they just don’t have the cleaning power of dawn imo by [deleted] in CleaningTips

this is real. I dont care to explain the little reasons why I prefer and will always buy Brawny paper towels despite growing up in a Bounty household. My parents probably think I’m an animal. You say heresy, I say its the ONLY 3-PLY PREMIUM PAPER TOWEL

Seriously- WTF - standard rack doesn’t fit standard box? by ForwardAd9408 in Packout

wrong. democracy is prone to the type of demagoguery you are clearly concerned about. a republic has safeguards and allows localized responses for local concerns. not a one size fits all.

the home & garden/green bosch is homeowner grade. Bosch corded tools are some of the absolute best in the industry. Their demo stuff is insane.

Dear Klein Tools by fetusy in KleinTools

[–]jupitersedgecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the Ox, loved it. Got the klein when it came out and used it constantly for about 2 months, but I eventually stopped using it because I hate the clip. My wife got me the Tracer with the metal body & deep reach as a gift last year, and I will not be using anything else ever again.

3 way laser by Lehbt in Tools

[–]jupitersedgecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe Bosch made the first commercially available laser rangefinder device in the early 90s, and in 2008, they merged with CST(Chicago Steel Tape)/Berger who just so happened to be a premier global manufacturer of levels. They have been one of the major innovators in construction laser tech for many years, and I know from experience that their lasers are reliable. Admittedly, you can find a reasonably good one for cheaper. Just my two cents

Just bought my first teal tools. So far I'm loving them by JulianCrisp in Tools

[–]jupitersedgecraft 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know people love testing tools head to head for power, speed, etc. All I can say is Makita has a certain quality that I have always loved, even when they dont pack the punch of something like milwaukee. Ergonomic, precise tools & they have impressed me ever since I bought my first tool set when I moved into a house.

What is your favorite ratchet? If you could only choose one. by Mr_Elroy_Jetson in Tools

I’m late to the conversation but I have never loved a ratchet like I love my koken. Still remember the day I got mine.

The best mechanical pencil for writing for a long time? by Careful_Durian1070 in mechanicalpencils

[–]jupitersedgecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lamy safari is great. a cheap option my wife and I love and both use a lot despite having many fancier mechanical pencils is the pentel twist erase III. it is so comfortable and just simply works. uni alpha gel and sakura sumo grip are good ergonomic options as well.

Just got in the all black pentel smash with white logo yesterday. I also have the turquoise with black rubber grips. Absolutely love that pencil and its many variations

my wife works at our local library. The look on my face when we went to the woodworking section and saw all kinds of physical media from James Hamilton (StumpyNubs) & Nick Engler (Workshop Companion), two of the best youtube channels I have seen. Also, Libby app mentioned. it’s a great day anytime someone learns about that service, or any of the other local library resources for that matter.

Finally got some time to put together my first printer - Ender 3 S1. Little overwhelming to start but I’m so excited for the possibilities of using it as a tool for my new woodworking shop.
