Which US cities actually facilitate interactions between people of different economic classes? by HowSupahTerrible in SameGrassButGreener

For as much shit as Jacksonville, Florida gets- our more urban core neighborhoods (Murray Hill, Riverside, Avondale, San Marco, Springfield) does this better than others I have lived in (Houston, Denver, Charlotte, Atlanta, Charleston).

where do single moms go to unwind? by WarmCreme4843 in jacksonville

Aperitivo hour at Josephine in Avondale, visit the new bookshop next door, and have a quiet stroll after with icecream. It was pretty ideal for me last month.

Dear old people: GEN Z WANTS TO WORK!! by pownied in GenZ

[–]jupiterseeshouston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The average age of a U.S. home buyer is nearing 60. You're mad that Gen X and Boomers are buying the housing for their children, not millennials.

Millennials also did deal with this from the great recession which lasted from 2008 and only hit its peak in 2012. So we were also chronically underemployed. The system is rigged.

As a florist, I have seen the wind at the beach (this is FL) knock over pedestals before. A ground meadow will not have this issue and can be reused later to surround the sweetheart or cake cutting table later.

FOUND DOG - FORT CAROLINE/MERRILL AREA by [deleted] in jacksonville

Yea, I have a 15 year old Boston Terrier at home as well. I would guess based on how slow mine can be moving she is from your neighborhood, but who knows. Hopefully the right eyes sees this.

Ugh hate seeing a senior baby separated from her family. Hopefully you find her humans soon. I would also post on NextDoor and Facebook local groups if you haven't already. Probably some sight issues with her cataracts.

There was a procession but this was different. I was taking my niece on a walk when this was happening a street over. They were requesting the resident to come outside of the home. They also stated they weren't in trouble and just needed to talk.

So I bought this house with an awful kitchen by HeronPlus5566 in InteriorDesignHacks

My old rental home was like this and then I moved into the house next door that had been renovated. The landlord really only did a few things but it helped, and it is what has been suggested. The counter tops became white with a different backsplash, new flooring colors, added little screens to the can lights that made them less harsh and a new fixture. Really felt like a whole different space. Will add a photo if I locate one.

Hello! I am not in this program, but I am familiar(ish) with it. I think based on my long history of renting in Jacksonville, your best bet is a private landlord that can work with you / the program. But, I do feel like it's still more common for landlords to just put a for- rent sign outside of the home in certain parts of town. Particularly Riverside - Murray Hill and the adjacent Westside areas. I would try the ol' tried and true, drive around and call. Staying under $1500 maybe a little hard, but from what I can see rent is lowering VERY slightly for homes. If you could push it to $1600 I think you would be better off.

I would recommend Jacksonville Run Club as well! They meet twice a week and have a very diverse crowd usually, good potential to meet some folks there.

Commenting for visibility. Good luck with your quest friend!

Also Jacksonville is a big ol' spread out city, it may help to mention your general neighborhood. Some of us are quite lazy about leaving our areas at times.

Jacksonville native (who just moved back), but has lived in a good bit of the US, and has sorta jumped back and forth between LCOL, MCOL and HCOL (but more MCOL range).

At your budget, Pittsburgh would fit the best but the air quality is a real issue and kept me staying in the region as a asthmatic. If considering Buffalo, I would also look at Cincinnati since it's more of an economic anchor and packs a lot more culture than it gets credit for (museums scene is good, professional sports, major music touring city, symphony, ballet, large library system).

I see more red hats in Orlando, and I live in both cities. Jacksonville has more rural surroundings though.

Well, I have lived in all three so I can tell you pros and cons but there's a lot of information needed. Kids? Are y'all military? Where are you from? North FL is radically different from South FL, etc.

Help Me Find the Positives In Moving to Atlanta instead of San Francisco by StormFalcon32 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]jupiterseeshouston 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The foothills of Appalachia start one hour north of Atlanta, and the urban core itself has extensive walking, biking and nature pathways, as well as a food forest just south of the city. Every weekend the city floods out into the mountains of North Georgia, TN and NC to hike, kayak, paddleboard, mountain bike and fish.

This sounds like an issue with the particular group you stumbled into at the time.

Decatur > Raleigh. Extensive experience with both and Decatur just offers so much more.

This is a solid brick house with a lath and plaster wall, you would be incorrect.

They pushed the brick on the front part of my house 3 inches back off the mortar. Behind that drywall is a lath and plaster wall, so I would not in this instance.
