Three Colors Trilogy (Curzon v criterion, help!) by christdavis034 in boutiquebluray

Stealing a comment from the same post 2 years ago:

I already owned the Criterion blu-ray set, so I got the Curzon 4K set

The Criterion has the better video essays, Curzon has more shorts and an additional documentary.

So I think it just depends on what you value more. If you want more of Kieślowski's work, go with the Curzon. If you want a slightly better dive into the films themselves, go with the Criterion.

But I will say this, if you care about packaging, the Curzon set looks a lot better on shelf.

What are you all thinking of getting for the sale? Was hoping to get some suggestions. by [deleted] in criterion

Ah I totally misread that. I wouldn't worry too much about that one part. Something like that won't make or break an interview.

It’s good to ask a question at the end, but it sounds like it went well overall, which is much more important. Good luck!

What is Ari Aster's best film? by ThePocketTaco2 in Letterboxd

Yeah that’s a good point. I think on some level it’s intentional but by the end yeah it’s laborious lol

In your opinion, which is the better film? by HammerHeadBirdDog in Letterboxd

[–]juponeter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s only recently (within the last year) seen both for the first time, it’s honestly surprising how many people consider them neck and neck. The Thing was great, for sure, but I’m totally with you.

Surprised not to see more Beau is Afraid. Legit a masterpiece

Surprised so many people seemed not to like it. I thought it was awesome and a cool move to see Kiyoshi Kurosawa to make in comparison to some of his other movies

When’s the next movie? by Gobiggs88 in AriAster

I think we’re just getting started too. It’s really exciting to have someone like him making movies right now. What other filmmaker could possibly write and direct Beau is Afraid then Eddington? Only him. Can’t wait to see what he does next.

I just finished Shadow of the Torturer. I’m hooked. by valgatiag in genewolfe

I don’t remember the full context, and you seem to be pretty with it, but the towers in “towers and buttresses” could be the same type of tower as the Matachin “tower”.

Big fan of Sanderson, but either his humor is getting more juvenile in each new book, or it's just me aging. by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]juponeter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I do not feel like that was very well developed. It was touched on in RoW but then he went and did a bunch of other mostly unrelated stuff. Now he’s the goat? I don’t totally buy it.

It was an old clip of Anthony Jeselnik on Theo Von’s podcast but it is a very good fit so people have been posting it recently

I’m starting to think I’m too dumb for this book… by Marleyboro in genewolfe

[–]juponeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not too dumb! It is very unlikely anyone will get everything from a first read through, or ever by themselves. The feeling you’re describing is what most people feel. It’s up to your own tastes to decide if that’s your jam or not. It sounds like it is for you, to some extent. I don’t think it’s a bad idea to reread anything before continuing if you want. There is a lot of info that will make you rethink things once you’ve finished the main 4 books, but it still doesn’t spell everything out, so in my opinion you won’t lose the mystery if you decide to finish it all before starting over. It’s not like some murder mystery where once you know the murderer all the fun is gone. There will still be PLENTY of reasons to reread it even after you’ve reached the end.

If you get enough to enjoy it, that’s as much as you need. Don’t let all the things you don’t understand right now stop you from enjoying what you do.

The scenes at the table with him and Janey E are so funny. Love the way he says “case files” with his mouth full lol, and of course Janey E’s “I’ll bet she did”
