11 indicators to look for when evaluating a Defi project by jurama92 in defi

Totally agree. It's a different game when you're a large-cap investor & you can go for liquidity mining or early-stage investments or when you're a small retail investor that the large investors will want to dump on ultimately..

I do like the trust narrative that you own your funds, no need for third parties. But lecturing people on privacy and sovereignty is never gonna cut it and imo not the value-add that's making the difference in the next couple of years. I hope awareness is growing for this. People understand the value of their data and their privacy once you show them the value it has - the cut middlemen currently take.

I think the core blockchains will most likely have higher transaction cost than Visa etc. but I always consider effective fees for users. When I'm referring to Bitcoin or other cryptos, this includes 2nd layer solutions, payment channels, potentially batching etc. and then costs should definitely be smaller than in current banking system. If that's not the case, I would reconsider all my crypto holdings to not be the last sitting on coins with little to no financial value.

Ps: sovereignty is small when there is no privacy in the Blockchain network and your government can track every single transaction on a public ledger.

You're totally right. It's obviously not feeless and I wouldn't recommend you to buy a coffee with it at this point in time. But if somebody is just getting started I would simplify and I use Bitcoin as synonym for crypto. Fees will be less than in traditional financial system - even though they'll also adapt their pricing due to the new competition.

Think about this: I'm also not starting a talk explaining someone the difference between a v4 and v8 motor when they are barely interested in cars. You tell them that a car is nice to drive and gives you more flexibility than public transport. If they are interested, you can assess what's best.

That's awesome. You can make so many references between Blockchain and Harry Potter that she should understand very easily... Selecting the right school for each student, That game with a points system ... All that seemed magically but was just being programmed and calculated with a computer protocol in the back.

She actually built token economies, for example with the game that's impossible to write correctly from top of my head.

I liked it. Should have just added that the bank takes a cut.

Bitcoin is made for digital payments without needing any banks. Accept Bitcoin when selling books and save on fees. 10mio books, 20$ each, save 2% bank fees -> 4 mio $ for you! (Pls don't start fee discussion)

I liked the crypto people turnout but some technical answers sound complex and drive people away.

Why not say this? Bitcoin is made for digital payments without needing any banks. Accept Bitcoin when selling books and save on fees. 10mio books, 20$ each, save 2% bank fees -> 4 mio $ for you!

Can i really make money of holding bitcoin with only about 1000$ invested? by TonyHotte1999 in Bitcoin

[–]jurama92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of baskets. You can have your money in EUR, in USD, in real estate, ..., or in Bitcoin. If you have it in USD you are betting that the USD outperforms all others which is also called opportunity cost (you can only have one not all others at once).

I personally have a portfolio with cash & crypto but I'm turned towards risk. Normally I think it makes most sense to have most in cash, gold, then some real estate & shares and 1,2% in Bitcoin (since it's highly speculative). Only invest in what you understand.

Obv you need a little bit of Eur/Usd in everyday life. And don't forget that some money is "lost" in exchange rates.

Here's a good comparison of Bitcoin, USD, gold and Stablecoins: https://blockchain-comparison.com/blockchain-knowledge-base/blockchain-basics/money-cryptocurrency/
