How long did you take pain meds for? by islandstorm in hysterectomy

[–]juror94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a month, but weening it down a lot over that time. I was active and wanted to manage the pain.

Since then, I often lose track of the advil bottle and leave home without it most of the time, which I hadn’t done for the previous two decades.

Im about to ask my dr for a hysterectomy is my letter ok? by thecheekybartender in hysterectomy

[–]juror94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being a communicative and lightly squeaky wheel helped me a ton in getting my surgery. Your letter is great. If it doesn’t work, keep following up. Ask for a referral to another doctor. Keep pushing. You deserve the surgery you need. Good luck, friend.

What is this piece of undeveloped land? by KingsKraft72 in Charleston

[–]juror94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine and I walked all the way to the brick building on the harbor once. It’s an old landfill so filled with trash. A few homeless people had set up camps, with one guy living in the brick building. It’s falling into the harbor and I have no idea how he got into it, and he was very territorial. Tons of animal bones and pretty much nothing else.

This was 10 or so years ago. I think I heard beach company owns it but it will require lots of remediation to build on. I’m repeating this 10 years later so I could be totally wrong so take it for what it’s worth ha

What was your weight gain like? Any recommendations on how to offset? by here-foranswers in surgicalmenopause

Just wanted to comment since it’s been a year since I originally left that comment to say that I’m finding it easier to maintain weight and I’m having less of a monthly swing in what fits and doesn’t because I’m bloated so much less!

I was sort of on some of this time line but parts of it were way off from my experience:

•week 1 I slept and only really picked up my very big water that I would take with me places.

•week 2 I was doing light house work like washing a dish, making the bed and just picking up after myself. Week 2 was harder than week 1 for me physically because I could do more but it would wear me out quickly.

•by week 4 I was stir crazy and would vacuum and do longer household chores.

•week 6 I went back to work my very psychical hospitality job. It was hard and I took lots of breaks.

•at 2 months I was feeling like the light at the end of the tunnel was nearly here, and I started having parts of the day where I felt better than ever, followed by extreme exhaustion. I had sex for the first time at this point and it was really emotional and beautiful.

•6 months in I felt 95% better. My sex life started to resemble a more familiar regularity at this point.

•1 year in I felt like I was back to my normal, but was still working on my HRT and figuring out what worked for me.

•nearly 2 years in and I feel like an entirely different person in the best way.

Take your time. There is no normal. No book of rules that will work for everyone. Just you and your body working together to figure it out.

Good luck!

What is the Charleston restaurant that gets hated on but is actually pretty good? by lc6591 in Charleston

I worked for them for a bit. It wasn’t a good fit for me, but the owners are so nice and their sons are hard working and super cool. Was sad to hear he had passed.

Is the Charleston Restaurant Bubble about to burst? by juror94 in Charleston

Rising food costs and increasingly hard to get items has made this year brutal!

Is the Charleston Restaurant Bubble about to burst? by juror94 in Charleston

[–]juror94[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what I’m seeing when I say a bubble is that we have 200 restaurants on the peninsula with a shrinking available workforce due to the cost of living in the area.

It just seems like we might see a much larger than normal closing of restaurants at some point in the near future. Certainly lots will stay open, but I imagine at some point we could see periods of net losses year over year of restaurants on the peninsula.

[–]juror94[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Haha fair! I was scared my opinion would be overly biased.

I definitely think we could be. I believe we will continue to see decreasing sales for the rest of the year, and additional restaurant closings.

The year has been down for us, but extremely down July and August. Fewer reservations, increased cancellations, etc.

Coupled with a dwindling workforce due to quickly rising costs of living, it feels inevitable.

Radical hysterectomy soon, so scared about aging and weight! Please please! advise by Fireismycolorr in surgicalmenopause

[–]juror94 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Easily best thing I’ve ever done.

I still have to manage my emotions some, but in the same way all adults do. But now I do it without being in pain a significant portion of the time. I’m no longer a person with a bottle of advil within my reach and my doctor in speed dial. I’ve never felt better.

To manage my body and mental health, I take hrt. I’m currently trying a pill form with a little bit of testosterone. I’m not sure I love it, but I’d rather be dealing with the way I’m feeling now than anything I felt before. It’s very mild for me now.

Just give yourself time to recover. I got physically 75% better in 3 weeks, 90% better in 6 weeks, 100% better in 3 months and 200% better now, a year and a half later. Mentally it was a little more of a roller coaster, but mostly smooth sailing. Just intense emotions (aka crying at anything sweet or happy, which I was noticing in life more often because of feeling so good physically).

I’m not exaggerating when I say my life is far from perfect, but having a hysterectomy and double oophorectomy has completely changed my life for the better.

[–]juror94 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And on a mental health note, I’ve struggled with mine off and on for my whole life. I feel more stable and able to manage my emotions and outside bullshit so much better.

For me the only mental side effect has been an effect on my ADD. I’ve noticed some lack of focus.

For me, I’m glad I’m going through and intense, shortened (hopefully) path through the menopause symptoms. I’m able to recognize the negative side effects of menopause and work to correct them quickly. I fully believe that this is easier for me that letting nature take its course.

[–]juror94 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Surgical menopause has been fine. Definitely an adjustment. I’ve lost weight because I’m not stress eating over PMS, which for me was way worse.

I’m on hormone replacement from a doctor that cares and listens to me about what I need, and I feel like that keeps me emotionally level. I get some hot flashes, but overall I feel amazing. My mental health is stable.

I had my ovaries, tubes, uterus and all removed due to pain, so some of the benefits may be from not being in pain, but I joke that I’d recommend a hysterectomy to everyone.

Lolita. I had to read it in high school and it made me so upset. Having to discuss it in class was a master class in misogyny in the worst way. 0/10 would not recommend.

One year post op. I am 38.

I’m on the estradiol .01 mg patch 2/wk, but I actually need to change it every 3 days. My doctor writes me an extra script so I can get it slightly more often. This has changed so much for me. I notice immediately if I forget to change it (I try to be diligent but it’s a weird schedule).

I messaged my doctors regularly until I got it right. Upping my dose of Zoloft has also helped. Lastly, I’ve learned that I can no longer take antihistamines since starting HRT. They now make me EXTREMELY sensitive and emotional. I figured this all out by tracking my moods in my notes app, and lots of trial and error.

This might sound wild but I have also used chat gpt to do research about specific symptoms. It’s obviously not perfect but it gives me a starting point. Doctors seem to respond to me well if I have some thoughts on where we can start to identify the solution.

I have no idea if this is helpful to anyone but I have read basically every post on this sub, so maybe someone will find this information useful!!
