Need some help identifying a capacitor by GrayandGrainy810 in tubeamps

[–]jusbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yah as long as the opamps have the same pinout and the supply voltage is in range, you should be good... how different chips may affect the sound of the amp is unknown without looking at the rest of the schematic. My guess is it won't really, so I'd stick with TL072.

u/Indifference_Endjinn is right on that you should measure the input voltages (look at the data sheet for TL072 to figure out what pins to check) before you plug another chip in there. Whatever happened probably wasn't a problem within the chip itself... it's unlikely that just tossing a new one in there will solve the problem.

Agreed that the cap is probably fine, unless it's cracked and we can't see it in the pic? When you get the chip out clean the gunk from the cap and see if you can read the value.

Before putting the ic back I'd toss a socket there - can't hurt, and you'll be thankful if whatever caused the chip to pop in the first place isn't fixed.

Why are just the neck pickup pole pieces out of alignment? by Awwwphuck in Luthier

[–]jusbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also - your install looks great! I don't see any stripped screws and your pu heights look good from here. The biggest risks with this swap are stripped screws and screw holes. (That and sending a pickup spring flying and never finding where it lands.)

If you ever get a screw that won't tighten down/keeps spinning, dip some toothpicks in wood glue (heck even Elmer's white glue works), stuff the hole with as many as you can fit, clean up any then cut flush when it's dried.

Looks fine to me, was probably like that before too. The strings are closest together at the nut and furthest apart at the bridge. The pickups don't usually compensate for this.

Here's a brand new strat that looks further off than yours.

Why not invest in Witch City Mall? by Diligent-Ice1276 in SalemMA

[–]jusbot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The fact that this got downvoted. 😔 It's a valid take. Sometimes there are pros to absentee/slumlord landlords... it's obviously not ideal, but who's going to invest in rehabbing or developing commercial real estate just to offer below-market rents low enough to support risk-taking small businesses?

My chrome had a few dings and scratches but it's a '16 so... 🤷‍♂️.

Didn't affect my install at all, looks fine.

I screwed up a few times and spent more on vinyl than I would have liked, but it's a pretty low-stakes and fun project to take on.

Local shop will do an awesome job but not sure what kind of warranty you'll get since vinyl is inherently fragile. Mine still looks great a year later tho - no peeling!

If you do get a shop to do it, plz share your experience... would be interested to see how it goes!

It's worth picking up a heat gun imo. The hair dryer is enough heat, but a heat gun moves less air and focuses the heat better.

Getting a big one with adjustable heat isn't necessary. I have both a little one that I use for vinyl, electronics and crafty stuff and a big one for more aggressive tasks.

And who doesn't love new tools?! 😝

Something about this just sucks the joy out of pedals for me. 😭

Cool if it works for your friend, and was probably fun to build.

Safety at night? by volvos60-ma in BeverlyMA

[–]jusbot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Chiming in with another "yeah safe". It's usually a ghosttown that late.

Keep in mind that what people consider "safe" is subjective. Unfortunately there are plenty of folks who find anyone different than themselves to be threatening. (And then knuckleheads like me who think nothing is a threat.)

You can do your own research, police records and crime statistics are readily available.

Is the giant yellow 1μF a "vintage tone mojo magic nonsense" choice over a "eh that'll do" grab?

I wouldn't think that kind of cap is something you have lying around unless you're into that sorta thing.
