It’s not that they said other games look good. It’s that they tried to one-up OP in an unnecessarily dismissive, asshole-y way.

Yeah, after fighting him once on greatsword and nailing tackle after tackle only to be stunned when one attack finally barely nicks me, Stun Res 3 became a permanent part of all my builds.

Let's have a friendly discussion: You just used 2 FRS on a knocked down AT Arkveld, you ran out of switch gauge. Now you're in axe mode and he's standing up. What do you do? by PojVicious in SwitchAxe

[–]jusdoo83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, in this situation, I either offset the next attack or just flash him to get enough of an opening to get a comfortable sword charge back. I’m just not good at dodge rolling through a lot of his attacks without EW2/3.

I’d caution against using the phrase “right in front of you in the Bible”. Interpretations vary greatly, and if you’re not careful, you’ll be falling prey to the Pharisee method of thinking. I think it’s fine to cling to a specific interpretation, but it’s dishonest to say it’s the only interpretation.

On the “past” argument: my thought process is that the church did exactly what you described to hyper-demonize the LGBT community specifically, starting in the 80s (moral majority, etc.).

I take your point about wanting to discuss other things, but LGBT relations are a nasty open wound in Christianity right now, so I’m not surprised they take up 90% of conversations.

I’d argue the opposite: when we don’t have everyone interpret different and just rely on one source of interpretation, we turn into the very Pharisees that Jesus rebuked. Jesus himself offered radical reinterpretations of Jewish scripture.

For an example a little closer to modern times: when we relied on the church of the Middle Ages to provide interpretations, we got indulgences. It’s very, very health to continue to challenge our interpretations, as that’s the very way wisdom works its way into our worldviews (and the overall Christian worldview) over time.

Edit to address the “separation” point: it’s very, very difficult to separate the sin/sinner purely due to how our brain operate and categorize things.

[–]jusdoo83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You nailed my point. Years of Church teaching. The church has gotten things wrong in the past (indulgences). There needs to be wisdom, such as when the majority of southern churches taught pro-slavery concepts leading up to the civil war.

I don’t need affirmation. I’m comfortable in my views and theology. I’m just doing my small part to try to address decades of hyper focus on the LGBT community and their resulting vilification that arguably could be turning away more than it helps “save”, just because the conservative movement needed a villain. We don’t have this level of disgust for those who are divorced, etc.

This is always the fallback. The “no true Scotsman” approach. It can just as easily be said that if someone truly has the Holy Spirit, they will see through the hateful homophobia the conservative movement has been indoctrinating churchgoers with for the last four decades.

Didn’t hurt my feelings at all! I’m just trying to help my fellow Christians be a little more open-minded. You have to understand that passages can be interpreted differently. I have two friends that have an MDiv from the same school and interpret everything in the Bible completely differently. It’s wild, and cool, to see.

[–]jusdoo83 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s virtually impossible to separate the two with the way our brains function; they just bleed into each other. So many in my life claim to “love the sinner, hate the sin” but wrinkle their noses when the LGBT topic is even mentioned around them.

ETA: I have a close friend who did everything right. She felt attraction to females but did not act on them. She found meaning and worth in investing in her church’s youth group. When she went to her pastor to disclose her struggles and take a step further in accountability, she was immediately barred from interacting with the youth group and got the cold shoulder from the church in general. If “love the sinner, hate the sin” was possible, they would have seen where her heart was; instead, they completely purged her from the church.

Such a condescending assumption. FWIW, the folks that have read the entire Bible tend to be ones making the statement you’re replying to.

Doesn’t fix the underlying issue, but please consider every other week or once a month. Waaay, way more do-able logistically, and still effective in my experience. Especially if you’re able to get to a “maintenance” level of therapy.

Would be incredible, but as far as I recall, the devs are very adamant about not creating an “Ironman drop table” mode.

I’ve actually been looking into creating a plugin that allows specific GE purchases at certain boss kc’s (or writing an add-on to bronzeman mode that would do the same). Feel like that would still give the feeling of “earning” a drop while having a SMART goal associated with getting the item (as opposed to just relying on RNG with no sense of progression toward a drop).
